The Loft is a self contained annexe, adjacent to and in the grounds of our main home at Box Bridge. It is situated right on the banks of the River Wye in the sleepy village of Boughrood. There are stunning views of the river, ever changing throughout the seasons, with panoramic vistas across to Hay Bluff and the Black Mountains. You could have breakfast sitting out on your little balcony overlooking the river or on the small terrace below the property. This is where you can observe the wildlife on the water while enjoying the peace and tranquillity.
The lower floor comprises of a toilet/shower room and a fully equipped kitchen. A spiral staircase leads from the kitchen to the upstairs living area/bedroom. An outside wooden staircase leads from the outside paved area to the upstairs balcony as a second entrance. The flat is fully furnished with a double bed, dining table and chairs, 2 comfy armchairs and a flat screen TV. Chairs to sit out on the balcony are provided too. Free Wifi is available. Free ample parking is available adjacent to The Loft with no booking required.
We are a recently retired couple who love to travel widely. We have set down roots in David's native Wales after being based in Oxfordshire for many years. Our plan is to carry on travelling to corners of the world, yet to be explored, while still leaving the smallest footprint possible. We are nature lovers who enjoy the peace and quiet of our delightful new house here in Boughrood. Our passions include gardening, DIY, supporting the local community and cultural events as well as live music.
This riverside location is fabulous for studying nature. We see a variety of birdlife, including heron, kingfishers, woodpeckers, and huge families of ducks and geese in summer. There is an otter that lives nearby but he is incredibly difficult to spot. Just outside the property is a footpath access to the river walk along the Wye which is part of the River Wye Walk to Glasbury from Builth Wells.
There is a friendly local village shop which stocks all the basics, only a 2 minute walk away.
There are 2 local pubs within walking distance. The Griffin Inn is open all day and serves reasonably priced pub food. There is an Esso garage in Ynyswen with a small Asda shop attached. There are plenty of great places to eat in the area, including the award winning Felinfach Griffin - 2019 Dining Pub of the Year for Wales.
The property is perfect for exploring the Wye Valley, Offa's Dyke, the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal or the Bannau Brycheiniog (Breacon Beacons) National Park.
We are only:
10 miles from the market town of Brecon
7.6 miles from the famous book town of Hay on Wye
12 miles from Builth Wells - home to the Royal Welsh Show (21-24 July 2025) and the Spring Festival
16 miles from the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Visitor Centre
26 miles from the Big Pit National Coal Museum
29 miles from Merthyr Tydfil with its large shopping centre
There are plenty of activities including hiking, walking, cycling or canoeing. It is possible to hire canoes at Glasbury on Wye which is 3.4 miles away.
Talgarth is a great centre for mountain biking and walking which is 4.1 miles away.
In 2012 the Brecon Beacons National Park, now called Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, became the world's fifth International Dark Sky Reserve. The lack of light pollution here results in spectacular starry skies. The annual Dark Sky Festival celebrates this prestigious status on 20th September 2025.
