Company information

We are a local couple that have lived in the area all our lives, we have been in the hospitality industry for the best part of the last 12 years running a busy bar and restaurant in Llanberis, having moved into Caer Menai in 2022 we have very much enjoyed the new challenge of running a guesthouse, no two days are the same and we both enjoy meeting new people and sharing our local knowledge and experiences with our guests. We try our utmost to make sure that every guest has a memorable stay at Caer Menai.

Property information

Caer Menai is centrally located within the Caernarfon Castle town walls, it is a grade II listed Georgian/Victorian property with many typical features from those eras. Originally built in 1823 it was a teacher training college before becoming the site of the first county school in 1894. It was converted to a guest house in 1974.

Neighbourhood information

We are located in Church Street which is a quiet side street just a street away from the main attraction Caernarfon castle, nearby within walking distance we have several restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. You wont find a better location within the historic castle town walls. Guests come from all parts of the country and indeed the world, but most come to see our World Famous Castle in Caernarfon, built by Edward 1 in the thirteenth century. A guided walk can be taken through the streets of medieval Caernarfon with stories about people, places and history of this very Welsh town. We are centrally located so you'll never be too far away from any of North Wales main attractions. The Snowdonia National Park provides many attractions, such as “Doing” Snowdon the easy way by the train or the hard way via one of the many tracks, Slateworks, Electric Mountain, Forest Parks and Activity Centres are all popular attractions. The coast is spectacular, the island of Anglesey (Ynys Mon) has many fine beaches to visit. Also, Portmeirion an Italianate village built by one man is in easy reach. Bounce Below at Blaenau Ffestiniog and Zip World offer a unique experience and both just a very short drive away.
