Company information

Our story began in Norway where I met Sven. We married and started our family there, living on Sven’s family croft near Bergen for 8 years. We came to Scotland in 1991, fell in love with Moray, and decided to stay. In 1997 we purchased the fire damaged farmhouse and derelict steading at Marcassie, with 23 acres of land. Restoration of the land and buildings has been a long slow labour of love, inspired by nature, craftsmanship and creativity, and the wish to leave a positive legacy of human living which encompasses care and regeneration, for self, others and the land. The farm is organically certified and produces vegetables, herbs and fruit, and we have ducks, hens and a friendly flock of Gotland x Shetland sheep. It is also home to a number of nature, food and craft-based enterprises. Our EU LEADER funding award in 2018 enabled us to build the Lodges and made possible the realisation of a long held dream to share this beautiful farm and the beauty of Moray with others. Marcassie Farm is intended to be a peaceful and contemplative place where you can find yourself and also be with others, a haven in which to unwind, digitally detox, smell the roses, touch the soil, hear birds and see stars. A space in Scotland where innovators and creatives can meet, and magic can take place.

Property information

This Studio is open plan with the living area, kitchenette and sleeping area all in one space, with an ensuite wet room with shower. The veranda is shared with the Studio next door. Ideal for singles, couples and small families of up to 3 people (includes 1 on the single sofa-bed). 1 well behaved dog over 1 year old is welcome.

Neighbourhood information

This Studio is a great base for day trips to Aberdeenshire, Speyside, the Scottish Highlands and the Cairngorms National Park. Visit castles and heritage sites, explore historic towns and villages, follow the Speyside Whisky Trail, enjoy the local food and drink, or attend one of the many festivals and events held throughout the year. The farm is close to a variety of walks and cycle paths including the Dava Way, which runs from Forres to Grantown on Spey. Beautiful beaches, rivers and the historic town of Forres are a short drive away. Moray is known for its beautiful beaches, rivers, woodlands, hills and mountains and these offer excellent walking, cycling, swimming, rafting, rowing, fishing, skiing and golf. The nearest shops, restaurants and pubs are 2 1/2 miles away and there is no public transport to the farm, so we recommend you have your own car.
