The house was one of the first built on the hill above Kendal. It was built in 1875. Prior to that the hill was used as a "tenterfell," where cotton fabric was woven and stretched. The rooms are large and there is a garden that leadss to an acre of private woodland. There is a picnic area in the garden, along with a proper Weber barbecue.
There is a large shared bathroom on the first floor, as well as an additional toilet on the ground floor. There is a washer and dryer in the utility room available for guests. Guests are also given a shelf in the refrigerator.
There are lovely unimpeded views from all the rooms. The bus stop to the Lakes is just around the corner. There are also two excellent taxi companies, as well as places to hire bikes.
I am originally from Liverpool, but lived in Los Angeles for many years, where I worked in film/TV. I am also an author of children's fantasy novels and science fiction for older readers. There are a LOT of books in the house!
Please note that there are six cats. Three came with me from LA - two were born on the backlot of Warner Bros. The cats spend there time in my room during the day and the sitting room in the evening. They also spend time in the garden. Oh, and they are used to being around dogs!
There is a lovely lane just across the road from the house which leads into the town. It is about a 5-minute walk. There is a supermarket at the end of the lane. The town has many restaurants and pubs, as well as shops and various museums.
People here are very friendly too. :)
