Cley-next-the-Sea is a popular holiday destination that bustles with visitors almost all year round. Pick up the North Norfolk coastal path from the village, take a stroll to the Norfolk Wildlife Trust's oldest and best-known nature reserve and its Visitor Centre, or catch the Coasthopper bus service to take a ride to the other lovely villages along the coast, such as the beautiful Georgian market town of Holt - only three miles inland - which is a popular shopping destination, and well worth a visit.
Cley is home to an excellent delicatessen, Picnic Fayre, and a local smokehouse is just around the corner. For fine dining, book into the stunning Cley Windmill. For lighter bites, there are a few cafes, The George and Dragon and the Pinkfoot Gallery, each within easy walking distance. A little further away, The Wiveton Bell gastropub which has an excellent reputation.
Nearby Blakeney is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - ideal for walking and spotting local wildlife, including seals and migratory birds. After a long walk, reward yourself with a sweet treat from Two Magpies Bakery. Head out for a day's sea fishing, try your hand at gillying for crab on the harbour, swim, kayak or paddleboard through the creek or join a seal spotting trip from Morston.
In neighbouring Salthouse, The Dun Cow is worth visit, as is the lengendary Cookies Crab Shop. The magnificent church of Salthouse holds regular art exhibitions and concerts throughout the year. The Old Post Office is now a store selling great local produce including beef from the cattle grazed on the marsh and a variety of provisions. You can also get a great cuppa and some homemade cake after a day out on the reserve.
From Cley, there are beautiful walks along the beach and through the saltmarshes, as well as excellent birdwatching.
