The house is set within 50 acres of Registered Historic Parkland & Woodland, a further 150 acres surrounding the house and parkland is managed in line with a nature conservation scheme. Guests have the benefit of having unrestricted access to the whole 200 acres - a self guided walk takes you up from the front door of your accommodation to a 360 degree vantage point with views of the Vale of Clwyd, (20mins). The garden is enclosed and is quite big - with a lower wooded area that has a 20m zip wire swing. We are particularly family friendly, there are permanent stair gates on the stairs and should you need anything for the little one we have most of the 'kit' here. The price is inclusive of oil for heating, electricity, towels and linen and the beds are already made up. The following are supplied within the accommodation: usual kitchen requirements; sugar, salt etc, kitchen rolls, dishwasher tablets and fluid, Towels and toilet rolls.
Important: There are 2 bedrooms in the self-catering accommodation: One bedroom with a king bed and another room with two singles, It is necessary to go through the bedroom with the king bed to reach the bedroom with the two single beds. Huw & Bethan renovated the self catering accommodation in 2003. Huw has lived at Plas yn Yale/Plas yn ial for 53 yrs and works part time for the National Trust at Erddig. Bethan works for Natural Resources for Wales as an ecologist.
Top 10 things to do in the area: 1. Walk along the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct nr Llangollen - a World Heritage Site (25mins drive) 2. Visit Chirk Castle (National Trust) - the Kids will love the spiral staircases and dungeon - 25mins drive – you pass the Acquaduct on the way to Chirk Castle) 3. Visit Erddig (NT) – Like ‘Downton Abbey’ you get to see the servants quarters 4. Cycle the 'Black run' at the Llandegla Mountain bike centre (5 mins drive away – you can hire bikes there too) 5. Walk the roman city walls of the City of Chester (40mins away) 6. Go to Ruthin to see 3 new attractions; the Goal, the Craft Centre and Nant-Clwyd House (20mins away) 7. Walk to the highest field at Plas yn ial for a stunning view of the Vale of Clwyd 8. Spend a whole day at Chester Zoo (45mins away) Full day required 9. Dine at the Corn Mill, Llangollen, which has a decking on the River Dee; ....stand on the bridge and look upstream to see the Mill (50yrds) 10. Visit the Horseshoe falls just beyond Abbey Cruises abbey – follow the Brown tourist signs. This is where Thomas Telford sythoned water from the River Dee to create the Shropshire union canal.
