Seaview is one of only two original waterfront fishermans' cottages remaining in Stornoway. Built in the 1800s, it now combines the traditional features of a fireplace and foot-thick walls with the modern comforts of double glazing, gas central heating and a wood-burning stove. The cottage has been lovingly renovated with a contemporary modern twist. Artworks and plenty books ensure a fabulous welcome to this home from home. A welcome basket with local goodies is included. Designed for two people, but with two bedrooms (as you don't always want to sleep with your holiday companions), one upstairs, and one downstairs with a desk. The kitchen has an induction hob, oven, dishwasher, fridge and washing machine. It comes equipped with all the basics for cooking. The cosy living room has a dining area, TV with iPlayer and Netflix, woodburning stove (starter wood included) and a comfy reading nook. A selection of books will keep you occupied should the weather not be suitable for exploring. There is plenty offstreet parking behind the house. The cottage comes with a local guide - which we also send to guests beforehand - to help them book activities and restuarants in advance.
Seaview is owned by local Janet MacDonald. Janet returned to Lewis after 20 years in New Zealand and Seaview is her part-time base in Scotland.
The neighbourhood is central yet very quiet, with the property overlooking the Newton Marina. The house is two minutes drive from the ferry terminal and Tesco. The town centre is a 10 minute walk with the best cafe in town (Becketts) a six minute walk from the house. A shore walk from the front door takes you round the coast to Sandwick Bay and Iolaire memorial. The local museum and the town centre are nearby (10 minute walk/ 2 minute drive). The local sports centre is nearby with the Lewis castle and the wooded castle grounds, 10 minutes away by car or a brisk 20 minute walk. Traigh Mhor beach is 20 minutes away and the stunning Callanish Stones 30 minutes.
