Ciarán was born and raised in the nearby town of Skibbereen, Sara in southern Sweden.
The house was built in 1985 by Ciarán’s parents and in the early years it was primarily used for holiday lets. In 2003, the property was let out long-term and remained so for the next twelve years. In 2016, we began extensive internal and external renovations. Our goal was to fully realise the potential of the house and garden, and to create a space that reflects our personalities and the character of the area.
This is not just a rental property: it is our home. We live abroad but we come here every year for 8 weeks. For us, it is a place where we soak up the splendour of this part of the world, and one which allows our children to connect with their West Cork roots. We hope that you will enjoy The Haven as much as we do.
The blue flag beach of Tragumna is a mere 500-meter walk from the house, as is the welcoming pub The Skibbereen Eagle. It serves good food 5 days a week at peak season and at weekends during the off season.
Skibbereen, which is 8 km away, has a good choice of pubs, restaurants and shops, along with an 18-hole golf course, a heritage centre and a farmers’ market on Saturdays.
There is plenty to do in the area. Whale watching and sea kayaking are only a 15-minute drive away. Along this section of the Wild Atlantic Way, there are a number of delightful coastal villages such as Castletownshend, Union Hall and Glandore where you can enjoy superb restaurants. At nearby Baltimore, you can catch a ferry to the islands of Sherkin and Cape Clear, or take a trip to the Fastnet Rock.
