The entrance retains its store-house origins and leads to an open-concept kitchen and dining area. The living room is in the Japanese Horikomi style and appointed with Bingo Kasuri traditional cushions. On the upper level is a large room finished in a fusion of Japanese and Western style. We revived this traditional machiya or “wooden townhouse” in order to help preserve and protect the use of such historical buildings for the next generation. This house of Shimazui features Semi-Western style architecture that dates back to the early Showa period (circa 1930). The kitchen has been prepared for your stay and is stocked with cookware as well as basic cooking ingredients. If you wish please enjoy cooking meals here with the foods and drinks you’ve found shopping around Onomichi City.
