Casa Toloc is a beautiful family home, with a large garden and space to enjoy in the charming town of Xul-Ha. Nestled in jungle greens and birdsong all day, you will be immersed in nature's sounds and scenes and the slow pace of village life. We are just a few steps from the gorgeous lagoon and local 'balnearios' where you can kayak or float in manantial rivers leading to the great cenote that sources all of Bacalar Lagoon, and is the heart of this local pueblo. The water reflects the clearest hues of blue you can find on the lagoon. Friendly locals, authentic food, and many secret spots along the water's edge to discover make Xul-ha a must visit!
We are just 15 minutes from Bacalar and 20 minutes from Chetumal Airport.
Ruins, zip lines, boat tours, kayaks, biking routes, beaches are all within distance of a day trip too if you are looking to explore the surrounding areas.
We are delighted to welcome you to Casa Toloc. Xul-ha is a beautiful place to discover, we can help you with any information and guidance on how to spend your time whether you are looking for adventure or relaxation. Our local team are happy to provide extra services and support for your stay, so you can get an authentic experience of the town.
Xul-ha is a local authentic town with a lot of character and natural surroundings. It is a step back from the more built up Bacalar. The most popular activity is a sailboat or kayak tour, along the mangroves and stunning water's edge. From the house we are just a minute's walk from the popular 'balnearios' Escondido, and Ejidal. There are many 'balnearios' and secret spots to discover along the water's edge. They boast the clearest water in all of the lagoon. I recommend visiting smaller more local balnearios nearby 'los Rapidos', to explore the area and see the stunning stromatolites and mangroves. Most offer great food and drink or charge a small fee to bring your own cooler and supplies to BBQ if you prefer. There are nearby ruins about 1 hours drive, Kohunlich, Dzibanche and the recently opened Ichkabal in Bacalar. You may be lucky enough to spot monkeys and have the place to yourselves! There are not a lot of developed bars and restaurants in Xulha, its a more local vibe but you can have amazing home cooked food delivered, there are also some great ceviche restaurants. If you are looking for night life you can take the 15 minute drive to Bacalar to explore the more varied food and music scene.
Bacalar offers busier beach clubs, restaurants and night scenes, and during the day you could take a sailboat or pontoon tour.
Chetumal city is 20 minutes drive away and you can enjoy the seaside malecon, Museo Maya, supermarkets, cinema, and a little futher lies the beachside town of Calderas which offers great sea views and seafood.
For the adventurous and energetic, just beyond Bacalar are the 'Kan Kin' zip lines, a dramatic journey through the jungle! There are also local bike routes to explore.
Mahahual is a 1.5 hours drive through mangroves to reach stunning beach and fun atmosphere. There is diving, snorkelling and beach clubs to enjoy.
There is so much to explore in the surrounding areas and we are very happy to help with curating your stay.
