In our apartment in our historic (ca. 1580) village-farm in Molenrij you can stay with up to 5 people. You always have access to private property. The apartment has two large bedrooms, one small bedroom, a large bathroom with infrared sauna, a large kitchen and a central (digital) TV room. On the patio / garden you can sit and relax. There you can also enjoy the wood-fired hottub (ask us is you wane use it) for hours. From the terrace you can walk on the Fledderplantage. This is an ancient elevated mound (Wierde) where you immediately feel the history of the area. We also have tow canoes (1 person each) you can use for free to explore the neighborhood from the water.
In 2002 we, Ester and Bas, started running the guesthouse.. We like to let our guests explore this beautiful Groningen area. Of course we do everything to ensure you have a wonderful stay in our apartment in a relaxed, quiet atmosphere, where nothing should and almost anything goes. Hospitality is our top priority. We both are graduated geographers with main businessfield in environment and in archeology. We can tell much about the history of the Groningen landscape, but we can also advise you about the exciting, fun and beautiful places in the area.
The apartment is within short distance of the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea. In the vicinity you can also visit the National Park Lauwersmeer and from the port of Lauwersoog the beautiful island Schiermonnikoog. Besides Molenrij lies the village of Pieterburen, with the famous seal-creche as well as many restaurants and nightlife-places. you can undertake many activities in National Park Lauwersmeer including a guided jeep safari tour, a boat trip and many other excursions. It is a birds paradise including the largest bird of prey in Europe: the Great Eagle. In Lauwersoog are many restaurants and also the possibility to hire a rickshaw (motorized) to tour the surrounding area. In the village of Leens (5km) you can visit the castle (Borg) Verhildersum with its gardens. You can also visit DoeZoo, a wonderful zoo. In the accomodation there are many leaflets available about many more tourist attractions in the immediate vicinity of the Sokkeraai.
