周辺エリアの情報
Blatnica is a picturesque village in the Turiec region, part of the Martin district in the Žilina region, located under the Veľká Fatra mountains at an altitude of approximately 495 m above sea level. The first written mention of it dates back to 1230.
History and Archaeology
This location is known as an important archaeological site from the 8th and 9th centuries, including the legendary Blatnica sword, which gave rise to the so-called "Blatnica-Mikulčice horizon."
Culture and Architecture
The village features notable folk architecture, especially the so-called oil-maker houses with walls made of unbaked bricks and characteristic arched gates, symbolizing the past of oil-making and saffron cultivation.
There is also a late Baroque manor (first half of the 18th century), a Baroque-classical residence, an evangelical church in classical style, and many preserved rural houses.
Nature and Tourism
Blatnica is the gateway to the Gaderská and Blatnická valleys, a beautiful area of the Veľká Fatra. The Gaderská Valley is about 18 km long, rich in flora and fauna – protected species, numerous birds and mammals, with tourist access from the village.
The Blatnická Valley is about 8 km long, karst-type, with dense forests, dolomite rocks, small cascades, and typical formations – including a rock window – accessible via a paved road from the village.
Above the village dominates the Blatnica Castle from the 13th century, whose ruins are freely accessible to tourists and offer views of the Gaderská Valley and Tlstá Mountain. The castle guarded a medieval trade route and was later expanded by the Révay family.
