Mickelson Trail Treehouse Suite
The Mickelson Trail Treehouse Suite is the top floor of a two story rustic log (treehouse) home. It is centrally located in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. It is near Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Custer State Park and numerous lakes and streams. Rainbow trout are plentiful in the area. Hill City is the center of a vast variety of hunting, fishing, winter sports, and within walking to the Mickelson Trail. The trail is 106 miles long, and crosses some of the most beautiful country side in South Dakota. The seasons bring hunting to the area, and the hills are abundant with turkeys, deer, elk, mountain lions, and other wild game. The owner and her cat lives and works in the area, and is in residence in the lower level of the log home. The cat rarely works, but can be found snuggled up on whatever chair I am wanting to use. There is 1 level Suite offered. The Suite has 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, hallway, and entrance sitting room where a coffee bar with appliances available. A continental breakfast is offered to all visitors, which is usually muffins, juice, (occasionally fresh bread or scones.) That includes Microwave, Refrigerator, Bottled water, Toaster, Coffee maker and general supplies. Tea bags are provided, however to do not expect a Tea Pot, this is South Dakota, and I suppose we are not that refined to include Tea simmering devices. The sitting room is about 14 x 10 foot. There is enough space in the Master Bedroom for a fold out table and chairs available for a set down snack or take home meal area. NO OVEN, WET BAR. OR KITCHEN SINK. My 14 year old puppy was sent to doggie heaven, am planning to disassemble the back dog yard, Will be transformed in to a garden are, this year.
Deborah Casey is the owner and operator of the Mickelson Trial Treehouse Suite. She is retired and enjoys the companionship of a Maine Coon cat in her rustic Log house in the Hills. The home is close to the small town of Hill City, is on a paved road with easy access to and from major intersections. We welcome you to enjoy the privacy of the Suite for your stay in the Black Hills. As this is a 2 level family home, (with a sliding divider between floors, it is not 100 % sound proof. I work mostly days, and wear headphones for any tv usage on the mail floor.
The Black Hills is a favorite for hiking, biking, climbing, hunting, fishing and relaxation. Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, the 1880 Train, as well as the Black Hills Museum of Natural History are featured attractions in the area. The Mickelson Trail, a 106 miles nature walk, runs thru Hill City and and is less than 100 yards from the Suite. The beauty of the Black Hills National Forest invites bikers, ATV and 4 wheelers to explore the area, Motorized bikes or 4 wheeler are not allowed on the Mickelson Trail. Very few negative responses to rooming with us. Two visitors have left early, the 1st one, coincidently the shower had been wrenched off the wall, and hastily shoved back in place. Figured they didn't want to admit to not knowing how to operate the shower head. Now instructions are given to all visitors how to activate the shower. One visitor found out they were expecting a big snow store in their Montana home town, and asked to leave early with my promise to giving the extra day the next day they were in Hill City. About the natural effort for a 30 lb Corgi to protect its home from passing deer, skunks, other dogs or cats walking by the house, by barking. Well that is what dogs do. When I leave in the morning, yup she use to bark. As she has found herself in doggie heaven this year, there is no more barking. The cat does not bark. In the 30+ years since my late husband and I hand built this log house, we have had zero house break-ins, or threats to the property. An occasional visitor who has lost their way, and we find the time to give them directions. Hill City is a very friendly community, which tries to accommodate our guests. Finding a fast serving restaurant in town (during the season) can be difficult. So have patience, remembering that this is small town South Dakota. Hill City is a tourism spot, in the middle of very interesting natural resources. Fun to explore and visit. The idea is to enjoy the outdoors.
