The sound and light show was a disgrace not worth the entry fee. For such a big attention it was so poorly operated. We witnessed dishonest ticket negotiations and told that wheelchairs available once inside the entrance.. there was not. However outside the entrance you will find market stall holders hiring wheelchairs for a ridiculous price.. if you require a wheelchair I would suggest negotiating at this point. Get there early, not a sign in site and asking guides and security to show way to avenue of the sphinx's resulted in many tips and going round in circles. Very large temple.
Very large temple. Quite difficult to understand what it is that you are seeing as there are so many rulers with difficult names. We allowed ourselves 2 hours, thinking this would be enough time to see Karnak. Wrong! Get there early to avoid the heat and majority of tourists, and simply wander. The yoga teacher on site was also a highlight for my very inflexible husband. The hotel organised 2 days of tours for us with a driver and a guide. Both days everything was amazing! Our tour guide Ahmed was very good and knowledgeable. We especially enjoyed our east bank tour, starting at Karnak temple, then Felucca ride at sunset followed by Luxor temple at night. Front facing rooms have a clear view of the Nile , the valley of the kings over the opposite bank , 2 km away from the Karnak temple. There is a huge local market on the backside of the hotel including some excellent restaurants. Availability of local cabs & horse driven carriage is plenty outside.
