This is an amazing place that should be visited several times. The government managed tourist pass can cover three days which provides access to the temple area of Seim Reap. I recommend a first visit with a government registered guide. Then return on later days to wander and really immerse yourself in the history. Do take a guided tour of the temples but not with Siem Reap Shuttle Tours - such an amazing place to visit with so much to learn and discover...shame we had the tour guide from "I don't like you because you won't buy the expensive lunch on offer" so he from then on hardly spoke to us! Incredibly rude and spoilt what should have been one of our best explorations. Out of eight people on the tour we were the only two to stick it out till the end as we only had the one day to see as much as we could...we then had to watch many programmes on Angkor Wat to find out what we had just seen!
