I’d offer an 11th star if Booking.com would let me. The Myoko Ski Lodge is perfectly located and a lovely residence, but the hosts – Geoff and Tania – are what made this a truly amazing trip for us. This was our first time skiing in Japan, and we could not have picked a better spot to stay. It’s walkable to an Akakura Onsen chairlift as well as the free shuttle stop that can take you to Akakura Kanko. The hosts helped us with transport and gear rental on our first day, allowing us to hit the slopes quickly and easily. They also helped the two non-skiers in our group set up interesting activities for the week. Our rooms were very comfortable for our family of five, breakfast was plentiful, and the onsen (natural hot springs) on the first floor were the perfect way to end a day of skiing. The town is lovely, not too big, not too small, and plenty of easy dining options. We were a tiny bit leery of the shared spaces when we booked (as we treasure our privacy), but I’m convinced this is THE way to go for a ski vacation. We made some great friends on the trip and it was so nice to hang out around the fire and share stories over a drink or two with other guests. The kids had a blast and we all enjoyed playing games in the play area/den. It truly felt like a home away from home. I thought a Japan ski trip might be a one-time experience, but I’m convinced that THIS is the way to ski – zero lines, great snow, good food, small town (non-commercialized) feel, onsens, and hosts who seemingly live to share this great experience with their guests. We will be back for sure!

Very attentive staff who gladly helped us arrange activities that would otherwise require fluent Japanese skills (e.g. make reservations, search for bus connections to remote areas). The bathing facilities are clean and comfy. We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet as well as the small dinner and after-bathing snacks.
What an amazing experience staying at Tsubame Highland Lodge. The owner of the lodge might be the best Japanese person I’ve ever met - so lovely and helpful and friendly. The Onsen - a mix of cold and hot has also been my favourite of the trip. And the view of the trees and the snow from our room and lodge made it the most perfect cosy stay.
Close proximity to town and lifts, great lodge feel, friendly staff, lovely rooms. I would definitely stay again. I loved the family bedroom great mountain view. Thanks all for making our stay lovely. Best espresso martini’s in Myoko.
In my 36 years of life I’ve never experienced such awe and inspiration in the form of accomodation. Staying at Morino Lodge was like being hugged by a large giant cat whispering fairy tales in my ear. I endeavour with all my might every day to return.
The staff at Myoko Forest Lodge were exceptional. They cooked great food, had excellent tips and advice about the area including good info on where the best snow might be found. We were treated like VIPs by everyone. The beds were super warm and cozy and the inhouse bath was divine.
Great hospitality, lovely lodge, home cooked meals were delicious, everything was literally onpoint! Best kept secret is their craft cola - be sure to order a Hare Cola soda after a long day at the slopes
We couldn’t have wished for better hosts. With an easy going attitude they have made this an unforgettable stay! Lisa knows all the good restaurants in town and organizes some really cool day trips! Dave showed us very cool off-piste runs in all of the nearby resorts 👍🏽 There is a courtesy bus for pick-ups at the resorts and restaurants. The lodge is really cozy and our beds where very comfortable. See you soon!
At least our room was clean. Bedding was clean and mattresses comfortable. The snow equipment dry room is decently sized and the lodge is a short 10 minute walk to Akakura Kanko gondola. They have pickup and dropoff at Myoko Station free of charge if you request in advance.
Fantastic ski lodge in a small ski town. Very friendly and helpful staff, nice breakfast with many options (hot & cold) and they do a group dinner every 2-3 days. The onsen are nice, especially the outdoor ones. The rooms are simple but very comfortable and well cleaned. There is a bar and if you ask nicely they will bring out a ping pong table and/or guitar.
