The private onsen was very nice, but the public onsen is very good as well! The staff is very nice and always accomodating. If you like traditional Japanese food, you'll love what they serve during the evening and morning. I recommend to stay at this ryokan either during fall (momiji) or winter. We were a bit too early for the heavy snowfalls, but still managed to catch some snow the second evening. Even without the snow it was lovely. I requested a reservation by specifying the room number I wanted to go to, they wouldn't confirm it with me but in the end they arranged the room as I wanted! The onsen hot springs were great.
