We stayed at Mario on two occasions on this trip, once at the start and the end. It’s 20 mins from Tambulaka airport and is the perfect place to start to unwind and for preparing to complete a wonderful holiday. The staff are friendly and kind. The rooms are clean, well-considered and comfortable. Book the sea-view double, you won’t regret it when you wake up to the wide expanse of the sea outside your window. It’s right on the beach so you can enjoy the sand and expanse of salty sea, or lounge by the pool which, while some have noted looks strange in colour, but is cleaned every morning and is a saltwater based. Fantastic cos’ it’s great for your skin without the harshness of chlorine. Food is delicious. All in all, Mario is small enough to feel like home and still clearly a very well-maintained and cared for hotel.

Leaving Oro House felt like saying goodbye to family – I had to wait a month before I could even talk about it without getting emotional. Oro House was my home in Sumba - I had the most amazing time here. During my week-long stay, I watched sunset at their private beach every single day, and even got to see a double rainbow once! They have this gorgeous secluded beach perfect for sunbathing and swimming. To me, this is the most welcoming place in West Sumba. Siska gave me great travel tips while encouraging me to discover my own adventures. Her family and friends made me feel so cared for - I always had delicious food and ice-cold Bintang beers at the home restaurant. They've got tons of Sumba books at reception too (especially super helpful Sumba-info). I missed here already when i on my flight to Bali. Hope to return someday. So grateful to Siska and the whole family. The best part of the stay was definitely the staff, Monica to be more precise. She made us feel so welcome. The sheets were clean and smelled well, warm water, beautiful sea views and goof air conditioning and the breakfast was great. We wanted to rent a bike and the staff in 20 min arranged us a great bike and also a driver to bring us to the airport. Thank you again Monica and the other girls for our amazing stay.

Very friendly staff, most of them speak a little English. Good breakfast; lot to choose from. Restaurant and room were beautiful and clean. Near the airport.

I arrived very late due to heavy rain and was welcomed by this amazing community who helped me with so many personal things such as organisation of my trip, Oan was so kind to drive me to pick-up my luggage at another place, they called a nurse to treat my foot that was injured a little bit from a hike. It is a lovely community with a very interesting museum of Sumba's history and culture on the campus.

Pasola features a garden, terrace and restaurant in Tambolaka. There is free private parking and the property provides free airport shuttle service.
