When my driver edged up the narrow-inclined driveway of this very modern home, I didn’t know what to expect. But Pearle and her husband Ranjan greeted me with broad smiles and open arms. After they had retired, they built this sophisticated home on their family’s property. Since the terrain of Matale is mostly mountainous, their home is perched up high on a small hill, allowing a beautiful view of the city from their wide terrace. Communication was swift and efficient as their daughter fielded email questions from the UK. English was spoken perfectly by all members of the family, so no worries for any miscommunication. I had arrived in the late afternoon and Pearle offered me tea. Ranjan returned with some short eats and we sat around chatting. The conversation was easy and I felt like I was visiting good friends for the afternoon. My room was located just off their living room with an adjacent bathroom with contemporary fixtures – it felt like I was in a fancy hotel! The stylish room with extremely high ceilings was spacious and tastefully decorated with an enormous mosquito net tied with ribbons around the large four poster bed. There is a portable air conditioner/fan which was not really needed as the evenings are usually cool and temperate. Breakfast was a luxurious feast with red rice string hoppers, potato curry, dal, green gram and a delicious, spicy chicken curry. Watermelon, pineapple, and sweet juicy papaya from their garden rounded out the meal. After retirement, Pearle turned her interests to cooking and she is certainly an accomplished cook! My only regret was staying only one night and will certainly come back for a longer visit!

A Hidden Gem — Our Best Stay in Sri Lanka! Coldagh Manor by Seven Angels was honestly one of the best hotel experiences of our lives. This beautifully restored old tea manor is peaceful, spotless, and full of charm. We loved wandering through the gardens where every plant is explained, and the whole place feels truly special and personal. The team made our stay unforgettable a huge thank you to Chef Dilshan for the most amazing meals of our trip (especially the rice & curry), and to Dinuka and Lakmal, who looked after us with such warmth and professionalism. We also enjoyed a wonderful private garden tour and a fantastic day trip to the Knuckles Mountains with Bandar, arranged by the hotel. If you want a place that’s authentic, quiet, beautifully renovated and full of heart don’t miss Coldagh Manor. It’s a true hidden gem and deserves to be fully booked.

Everything! Amazing location with great views - we watched the sunset from our room. Staff were all very friendly and polite, very accommodating, we went during low season so we were the only guests and they arranged breakfast lunch and dinner whenever we wanted. All the food was delicious and such huge portions! One of the days we had a private guide drive us to various view points in the area and reception organised our taxi from the airport and to our next location and everything went very smoothly.

Sarath and his wife Deepthi are the most delightful hosts. We had a wonderful time staying in their beautiful home in the jungle. We had a steam massage (highly recommended) and Sarath took us for walks around his spice plantation. It’s a beautiful place to unwind and chill, and you are looked after so well. Deepthi’s cooking is amazing. Wish we could have stayed longer!

What a beautiful quest house. It is set away from the busy main road and very peaceful. There is a restaurant, which we did not use, so I can't comment, but there was no noise, apart from some soft music,which was quite nice and chilled. The room was very clean, with clean bedding and towels. Staff were very helpful and Friendly. Loved this Lodge. I could have stayed longer just to enjoy the peacefulness. As we are travelling by bicycle, our bikes were very secure for the night.

Good location/climate. Peaceful and relaxing, surrounded by bird sounds. Comfortable old tea estate guest house. Lush garden. Excellent staff Moorthy and Dino (cook) who took care of us. Longer and shorter walks from the property, need to be able to manage hills. Transportation can be organised if required.

Clam and Cool Environment with Beautiful surroundings Friendly staff. Comfortable Accommodations. The owner is perfect and helpful. As per our request, she provides a good cook. Valued for the money The convenient location makes it an excellent choice for those seeking a peaceful retreat in Matale.

The best stay we had in Sri Lanka. Just out of the city center, but walkable. The room was clean and the shower was perfect. The breakfast was amazing. The staff was the nicest couple we have met so far in Sri Lanka. Would definitely recommend staying there for at least two nights. Thank you for having us!

Lovely manager who wanted to make sure our stay was as good as possible. We ate at the hotel and tables set up outside by candlelight and lots of food options. Lovely clean pool in beautifully manicured gardens.. fabulous ground keeping !! Room comfortable with everything we needed. Lovely stay on our Sri Lanka tour.

The view from this property is breathtaking of a tropical mountains and forest. Something you see in the movies. Beautifully maintained garden. The host is very kind and helpful and clearly wants to make your stay as best as it can be. The trip to the village was very interesting (better early morning as it gets hot later), a big thank you to the lovely guide. We had all meals at the property as I think was the only option having in mind the difficult last 500m of road and the location. The food was good local cuisine.

View through the landscape is nice! Located in the heart of Knuckle mountains. Staff was really nice and made a good dinner. All in all a great place to stay when being in knuckles, but price for standart room should bit high

We stayed overnight at Pearly's when we had to attend an event in Matale. It was such a wonderful experience for us. The space is very well equipped and clean. The location is also perfect with a beautiful view of the Knuckles mountains. The hosts were extremely friendly and caring. They made sure we felt right at home from the get go. The Sri Lankan breakfast was absolutely amazing! We will definitely come back next time we are in Matale.
