United KingdomThe hotel is towards the back of the small town so quiet (but no lake view consequently). It is newly built with modern rooms. Very comfortable large double bed, good heating system, spacious bathroom with great shower and plentiful hot water. Staff were nice and friendly and we managed to communicate despite our lack of Spanish. There is an excellent kitchen facility which you can use to cook for yourself, and it includes all the necessary implements you will need for simple food. We would certainly stay here again.

Room (type): we were upgraded to a super spacious room (‘San Lorenzo’) with terrace. Well designed and furnished.
Location: superb! Patagonia House is surrounded by forest and well kept gardens offering beautiful views. 5-10 minutes ride from city center and 45 minutes by car to Balmaceda airport. (Chp 9k pp in shared minivan that reception will help you to book in advance if desired)
Bed: Beds comfortable but double beds are in fact joined twins (so expect a crack in the middle)
Bathroom: outstanding and spacious. Good shower. Very nice soaps etc.
Wifi: superb
Bonus: The restaurant is absolutely outstanding (both for breakfast and for dinner). Apart from this, there are various friendly dogs (belonging to the hotel) that will love to join you for a walk (and be cuddled)
All in all a 5 star hospitality experience without it being a 5 star hotel.

The best place to stay in Chile is Chico. The room is super big and the best think is all the rooms are facing the lake. So you are enjoying the view of the mountains and the lake every time. The kitchen is super well equipped and the wifi is super fast.
The same hotel has a restaurant where you can eat or you can just walk to downtown. Not parking lot in the building but you can park on the street in front of the hotel.

Incredible location, nice (and warm) communal areas and fantstic food each night prepared by chef Venecia. Portions are huge so easy to share meals/starters/mains.
On the property itself there’s an incredibly rewarding hike with some of the best views we had on our trip (but you need to walk all the way to the end!).
Staff are delightful - a special mention for Belén who is the sweetest!

Wonderful romantic getaway. Everything and everyone was great. Facility beautiful. Food was good and reasonable especially considering there are no other options but they did a great job for a fair price. Umbrellas were a nice touch and spa massages and pools were great. Hot springs maintained well. We loved our time there even though it rained a lot.

Literally everything! The room was perfect with stunning views and the wood stove was an added bonus. The staff were beyond friendly and helpful for whatever we needed. The food was spectacular and I especially enjoyed the animals roaming the property who appeared very well cared for and loved.

Coihaique is a town of about 60k, so not small, but quaint...
Coihaique is a town of about 60k, so not small, but quaint and not touristy at all. Plenty of good local eateries, grocery stores and whatever else you may need. Lovely rolling hills and the Andes mountains in the distance. Interesting geography and history of the area. We only stayed one night but wish we would've stayed a bit longer to see more.

There are very few excursions available in Puerto Rio...
There are very few excursions available in Puerto Rio Tranquilo - especially with the closure of the Exploradores Glacier. I would recommend to stay in Puerto Guadal instead which is 1 hour away. Easier to cover the area around (Chile Chico, Cochrane, Patagonia National Park) and even to come to Rio Tranquilo as needed (which is 1 hour drive away).

We strongly recommend Chile Chico and the very scenic road between Chile Chico and Puerto Guadal. The road is a bit dangerous, but the scenery is breathtaking. The General Carrera Lake is huge and has scenery with snow capped mountains in the background that one can only dream of, but it is real!

Fantastic views, stylish lodge, attentive staff. Beautiful location surrounded by nature, views of valleys and mountains. The food was not exceptional but well prepared. The Lodge itself is well designed in the farmhouse country-side kind of style, huge windows, nice furniture, and it feels like a private retreat rather than a hotel. The manager was exceptional- he was at 5 different places at the same time, finding time to greet all guests, offer meals and services and attention. I only think English as an international language of communication would be desired: we could have used a locals' advice on the Park and the area as our information was rather limited.

Coyhaique is a great jump off point to travel the Carretera...
Coyhaique is a great jump off point to travel the Carretera Austral. We flew into Balmaceda airport, rented a car and then stayed the night in Coyhaique. Generally car rentals are round trip-no one way drop off, so having a central point to return to is key. Get comprehensive insurance! Many sections of the Carretara are gravel/ all weather roads with lots of bumps, pot holes, etc. We needed to make a claim for a dent on this leg of the trip. Although not essential 4 wheel drive for some sections was useful for stability on the road. Coyhaique has lots of grocery stores and specialty shops for getting provisions. We drove north for several days as far as Puerto Raul Marin Balmaceda. Then headed back to Coyhaique stayed the night and headed south for a number of days as far as Puerto Bertrand. Then back to Coyhaique stayed another night and to Balmaceda airport the following day. (The overnight stays were necessary because the drives took many hours.)

Puerto Tranquilo is a "boom" town.
Puerto Tranquilo is a "boom" town. It looks to be experiencing growing pains and the zoning and growth of the town appears to be in the hands of the people of PT. Hopefully they will have the foresight to zone appropriately and grow in an manner that is good for the town as well as the tourism industry. The main attraction appears to be the San Raphael Glaciefr that is retreating at an alarming rate (thank you global warming.) It is what it is.

Very nice home. New, high-quality construction. A reasonable walk from the small nearby town. Beautiful views and surroundings with numerous outdoor activities available. Horseback riding, fly fishing, trekking, sightseeing, etc.
Exceptional hosts that own and manage the property. The family goes out of their way to make your stay enjoyable.

This hostel is good if the lowest price is your priority. My main complaint is that there was loud noise from the staff and guests well past midnight. Mind you, I'm 66 and they all looked to be under 30.

Great location to explore the Marble Caves, glaciers, the confluence of the local rivers, the Patagonia National Park. Really one of the most beautiful areas that I have ever visited. So glad to have experienced it before it gets more well known and bigger. Will definitely go back.
