- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 1,075 reviewsOur stay at La Tigra Rainforest Lodge was truly a highlight of our Costa Rica trip. Having visited multiple places across the country, this one stood out as the most memorable by far. The food at La Tigra is simply amazing, with each dish crafted with care and attention to detail. From the quality and diversity of the menu to the beautiful presentation of the plates, it was a culinary delight at every meal. Our room was beyond amazing, boasting a stunning view of the jungle that made us feel like we were in a dream. Not only were the rooms impeccably clean, but we were pleasantly surprised to find warm water—a luxury in the midst of the rainforest. The entire experience felt surreal and truly special, something we know we'll never forget. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, taking the time to explain everything clearly and ensuring that our every need was met. Their genuine hospitality made us feel right at home. One of the highlights of our stay was the frog tour, which we had the pleasure of experiencing twice—once in rain and once in dry weather. Each time was a unique and magical encounter with Costa Rica's incredible biodiversity. The journey to La Tigra was an adventure in itself, with the scenic drive requiring a 4x4 vehicle and a leisurely pace. But the anticipation of what awaited us at the lodge made it all the more exciting. In conclusion, La Tigra Rainforest Lodge surpassed all our expectations and left us with memories that will last a lifetime. It truly was the most memorable stay of our trip, and we can't wait to return someday.Guest review byJolyneNetherlands
- From US$128.82 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.8Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 756 reviewsTrully an amazing service from the lady at the reception office, helpful and comprehensive. We tried the chalet and the glamping and both were very cool and different experiences. The food at the restaurant was so good, honestly we were impressed by the quality of the food proposed. The service was also excellent from the staff at the restaurant. They have a very nice site, not far from Poas volcano and the area is pretty nice to visit too. 100% recommended.Guest review byDanielCosta Rica

We loved the various hiking trails, one even led to a water fall where you could swim, so bring your swim suits! We saw so much wild-life nearby on our walks including coyotes, toucans and monkeys. The room was spacious and very comfortable. We loved every meal and found the staff to be super friendly and helpful, wish we could have stayed longer!Guest review byCristinaIreland

We enjoyed the area and while we did a lot including driving to Monteverde for zipline tour, we chose one day of pampering rather than adventure so did not hike around Arenal or paddle board on Arenal. We did white water rafting between Puerto Viejo and Fortuna. We did waterfall repelling near Fortuna (amazing). The people are friendly and the area is lovely. We enjoyed a night time nature tour with our hotel (Noah's Landing) and Nayara Gardens was amazing. We saw plenty of sloths but so much more! We went to the Mistico hanging bridges on a rainy day which worked well-it did not matter. We also visited the Fortuna Waterfall (500 steps down-then 500 steps up but worth it!) If you like adventure- there is plenty. If you want to relax-it is a beautiful place to do so.Guest review byTamiUnited States - 6.0

I was there one night because it was close to the airport. I would not hang out there for a significant length of time. Not a good place to be after dark. Also came across a suitcase on a sidewalk. It had obviously been stolen and rummaged through.Guest review byThomasUnited States - 8.0
Bijagua is a small Costa Rican town.
Bijagua is a small Costa Rican town. It’s not a tourist town. You are very submerged in the culture. Learn some Spanish. Everyone was kind. We ate at several restaurants. We shopped at the grocery. We seemed to be the only tourists. It seemed very safe. The food was EXCELLENT! We drank the water. Read up on tipping. Stray dogs are everywhere. Do NOT pet them at the restaurants. We did the Sky Bridge Tour in Bijagua (a little hard to find - it’s at a resort) and the Tree Top Chocolate Tour. Both we excellent. We hiked to the Rio Celeste waterfall. That is not an easy hike. It’s through the jungle. Wear boots! Snakes are a VERY REAL. We also did tubing down the river. SO FUN!!!Guest review byJenniferUnited States - 4.0
Proximity to Airport!
Proximity to Airport! This facility standards were substandard. My wife hurt her foot on a dangerous doorstop, sewer gas was overwhelming, no hot water, air conditioner was not hooked up, pumping hot air back into the room. The stairs right from ground level were dangerous. English was non existent with staff. They were courteous and helpful. There were no privacy coverings on the windows. Open hole in Bathroom ceiling.Guest review byKevinCanada - 10.0

We stayed at the Altura Hotel. It was amazing beyond words! Can not say enough about this place. We stayed in a 'dome/yurt' and it was beautiful, well appointed and excellent in every sense of the word. Breakfast was included and it was such a treat!Guest review byDonnaUnited States - 10.0
Grecia is a wonderful little town.
Grecia is a wonderful little town. I was here to find a new home so I was looking throughout the area and visited Atenas and Naranjo as well. We decided on a place near Naranjo. In Grecia I ate at several local Sodas which were fantastic and a more upscale restaurant called Bariles which was fantastic. POPs ice cream shop is also highly recommended. In Atenas I ate at a really good Italian restaurant called Firenze. The Pasta Puttanesca was cooked to perfection. When driving watch for motorcycles.Guest review byMoore - 10.0

Restaurant in front had great food. Staff was wonderful. And the restaurant was fairly priced as compared to other places in CR. Access to the river at the back of the property was the highlight. We spent a long time playing in the river. And it felt so private. And it was free!Guest review byAmitUnited States - 10.0

When making your reservation, ask for the biggest cottage possible. Its all uphill and sometimes rainy and foggy when making your way here, and stay on the road ALL THE WAY UP TO WHERE IT ENDS, at the reception, restaurant lodge. This restaurant was a total surprise. The food and service was exceptional. I vote for Jean Carlo as best hotel/restaurant host in the whole country.Guest review byminorCosta Rica - 10.0

Our trip was mostly rejuvenation, health and to access the volcano and hot springs. We went to Arenal park and hiked the trail to the Volcano. We saw a Capibara but most other wildlife is best viewed in the early morning. There were a lot of orchids in bloom along the trails. Going to EcoTermales Hotspring was the highlight. It's a gorgeous naturally constructed spa with layered pools, waterfalls all built with stacked granite rockery, bridges and pathways connect the pools, and there's plenty of seating, an open bar that serves the best mixed drinks. The restaurant served fresh healthy assortment of seafood and meats with veggie dishes with dessert at Lunch. The water was fed from the natural hotspring, which was circulated , refreshed constantly with fresh volcanic water. Attention to the holistic elements of nature were throughout. Staff and Service were top notch.Guest review bySuZImageZCanada - 10.0

This is a great area to experience Costa Rica and the wildlife. We visited Mistico hanging bridges (great with a guide as located creatures we would not have); La Fortuna waterfall (no guide needed); Sky adventures (aerial tram, zip lines & trails); sloth guided tour; Arenal Observatory Lodge & Trails (day pass with lunch) - all of which we would recommend!Guest review byAmandaUnited Kingdom
