This place was amazing. The workers were very friendly and attentive, and the resort itself is beautiful. They also do an amazing job with the landscaping, so you feel like you’re in the middle of the jungle. The food was great and we loved the coffee hour and banana bread! We also did the coffee farm tour, which was amazing! The tour guide was so knowledgeable and talked a lot about their sustainable farming practices.

A very special and incredible place to visit. You will need a good car to get there, but you will not be disappointed. It is a huge tree house stretching through the native forest as it is built into the forest. Great for bird watchers and frog spotters. Great hikes between waterfalls and around local fields and villages. Very caring staff will book local tours for you and will look after you with a high level of hospitality. The rooms are very big, the bed and mattress are impressive and the mosquito net is well built and spacious! We are very grateful!

Up in the mountains near San Jose, there is this lovely, beautiful accommodation. The place is beautiful, with beautiful gardens and an amazing view to the nearby valley and mountains. The quietness is pristine here. We stayed there in our last night in Costa Rica and our idea was to relax before our long flight home next day and it was a really good for this. We booked a room but the owners upgraded us to a very nice room with jacuzzi, sauna and a balcony with a beautiful view. Everything in this property is very well cared, clean and tidy. Upon reception we met our hostess Alejandra which is such a lovely person and she took care of us in any detail of our stay. As we didn’t have a car, she helped us to choose and order our dinner delivery to the accommodation and prepared our table in the dining room. The breakfast in the next day was simply amazing with local fruits and local produced yogurt with home-made granola – it was delicious – and fantastic home-made bread and the fried eggs were prepared spotless. Such a great breakfast. If you want quietness and a first-class service by Alejandra, you must come here.

What an amazing place. The rooms are a really good size with two very comfortable double beds. Good to have proper coverings for the windows that blocked out light. It was so quiet here at night. Lovely grounds with lots of birds and a troop of howler monkeys visited whilst we were there. Dinner was exceptional. No menu just said we ate everything and a large tray for the two of us arrived. It was all so tasty. Definitely recommend this place as a convenient overnight stay before or after getting the boat to Tortugero.

Incredible wildlife right at your doorstep! The facilities are fantastic and clean. Staff are helpful and friendly and the cafeteria food is great. Would love to stay here again, you can walk along the variety of trails at any time (In our short 24hrs at the station we spotted sloths, coatis, agouti, spider monkeys, 4 species of snakes, many poison frogs, glass frogs, red-eyed tree frogs, toucans, woodpeckers, bullet ants, and much more). Note for other visitors some of the accommodations are roughly a 15-20 minute walk away from the dining hall/reception. It's a comfortable walk along a mostly flat, fully paved path but you will need torches/headlamps at night to navigate. Highly recommend all nature enthusiasts to visit La Selva Biological station

Ara Ambigua handles a lot of coaches pausing for a day or two en route to other parts of CR, so lots of tourists around even in low/shoulder season. However, quite a lot of Costa Ricans there as well, which speaks well. After 10 days on the road, staying in EcoLodges of varying quality, I expected more of the same but was delighted by the high standard of Ara Ambigua. They clearly prioritise keeping the jungle at bay, and the staff were well-trained and helpful. I came back late one night to find the front gates locked, and managed to sneak in by another route. The night watchman and his large dog almost gave me a heart attack as they came on me out of the dark; but were very kind once they knew I was a guest, and helped me through the dark to my room! Front desk and other staff were also very helpful and kind. Swimming pools clean, well-maintained, respecable wine list (they store their wines in a climate-controlled room). Room was clean, a good size, well air-conditioned and with a good shower.

We knew Poas Volcano Lodge would be a nice place, but it turned out to be much nicer than we expected. The entrance as you drive through the dairy farm is lovely, and the hotel's grounds are much bigger than I thought. We stayed in the main building and found the style and the architecture very nice, incredibly spacious, very well kept. There are multiple lounge areas - the photos don't do them justice. The rooms are large, the bed really comfortable, and the view over the volcano is beautiful. We had dinner on site which was ok - like a nice homely meal - and then enjoyed a few glasses of wine by the fire on one of their many couches. Overall, we were quite surprised and delighted by how lovely our stay was. If you're looking for a place that's cute, cozy, but of a high standard then this is it.

Sleeping in the « domo » (the yurt) was truly magical. we could thus hear nature better. The bedroom and bathroom area were spacious, comfortable and very clean. The garden and the property are really gorgeous We took advantage of it to take the 4km walk in the forest path into the property. The view from the restaurant is incredible for breakfast. This felt like a very special place. Everyone has their own cabin with fire place should you need to warm up. There’s a long walk you can do through the jungle from the hotel which was really nice. The staff were really helpful when it came to getting taxis around, but a lot easier here to have a car.

Tirimbina is a magical place. The grounds are nicely maintained. The trails are a bit tricky with concrete pavers which serve to give you a less muddy hiking experience, but they are not solid pavers, so just be aware that it’s not a smooth trail. The pavers end as you go deeper into the forest. We did an excellent coffee/chocolate making tour which we enjoyed immensely and also a night walk which was enjoyable. The restaurant is excellent! I am so glad we found this place!

A slice of Tuscany in the lush green landscape. Warm hospitality with cool breezes. Uniquely furnished and well equipped cottages. This is the paradise that is Finco Paraiso. The beautifully planned gardens were a treat to the eyes with fresh fruits and colorful flowers all around us. The breakfast was delicious with locally grown produce and rich and fragrant Costa Rican fresh ground coffee. The hosts were gracious and took the time to check on us when there was an unexpected black out( blackouts hardly ever happen there!). Everyone in our group wished to return with our partners and families as we just could not get enough of this jewel neat San Jose!
