I got an upgrade to a room with a full view of Neuschwanstein Castle. I could even enjoy a view of the castle from the bathtub. The room (Lohengrin themed) also came with a balcony overlooking the castle. The staff was super friendly and can arrange tickets to the castle for you. The hotel also has wellness options, and I booked a great massage there. Tip: Check out the Alpsee mountain lake, a 15 minute walk from the hotel. It is close to the Hohenschwangau Castle and absolutely gorgeous. It was really hot during my stay, but the lake was nice and cool; it was ideal for a refreshing swim.

Plus points for us was tesla charger included in cost, we are a family of vegetarians and vegans and we're well catered for. Ate in restaurant for 3 meals, all excellent with great service. Staff very friendly and helpful. We opted for a balcony room for one of us which was amazing with views of neuschwanstein Castle and the lake and mountains. 2 other rooms were without the view but were large and comfortable.

Very beautifully situated in the mountains, green everywhere. Beautiful large rooms, very comfortable beds, walk in closet and very spacious. Great swimming pool outdoors and indoors, great playground for the kids, just outside the hotel, great hiking nearby. We could charge our electrical car in the basement, all very easy.

Transportation system is terrible getting there and back out...

Transportation system is terrible getting there and back out. There’s the ‘train station at the end of the world’ that has no trains or DB office. Bus schedule signs at pickup areas were incomplete. After missing connections and riding buses for hours, we were ready to leave when we arrived. The Hotel Ludwig stay, though, was marvelous. Fortunately, the big castle can be seen fairly well by the departing bus as it does leave. The town seemed nice, along the short walking route to the hotel.

I followed the tourist information office trail. There are a dozen buildings worth seeing. Because I was only there one night, I didn't have time to go in any but photos, especially of the Residenz interior look as if I would have loved a visit!

Memmingen is a nice town.

Memmingen is a nice town. Sadly we are always just doing a stopover so never get the chance to explore, but it looks an interesting place and not far from the Alps. 11 to 19 Oct 2025 was the Krammermarkt fair. Caused us a problem by not being able to make a return stopover at the Joesepps Hotel (with onsite traditional 'Octoberfest style' restaurant due to the fair, but the Algau Memmingen Nord provided an excellent alternative.

[12:18] Orecny Peter Worst apt. where I was. Dirty and smell. Key box on the ground behind trash can and you will be have a problem with open the key box, because of rust and in a rain also wet. Problem with parking and no internet connection. This place is for animal not for human. Dirty socks front of the door. Used dishes and leave it in kitchen. If you open the fridge, you have a fiiling that there died some animal, not for food. Best thing it was hole in the wall, where you can see out of the apt. and it was not possible to cover somehow. It was fck cold inside, because od this hole. The kitchen is unusable, I don't understand how they can rent it without cleaning, they leave a used fork there. Bathroom, same story, dirty, dust and mold. Go away from here. [12:18] Orecny Peter Nothing was good. I can only say, go away from here or do not make a reservation here. This apt. is really only for animal. Location, not good, problem with the parking. Not internet conection.

Great town and area to visit, with lots of activities...

Great town and area to visit, with lots of activities available also during autumn. Beautiful nature all around. Reaching the Nebelhorn mountain top in just six minutes from the village and the Alp view all around is just fantastic. Great walks through and around the Breitachklamm. But of course everywhere packed with tourists all the time.

Excellent little Bavarian town. Surrounded by trails, mountains etc. If you don’t like quiet, then this is not for you. But Oberstaufen is located a short drive from the towns of Lake Konstanz and all the touristy things that you may require.

The town is lovely for a walk and for viewing the painted buildings. You can also get some good beer. Prices are higher due to the proximity of the castle. The town is an ideal place to stay for visiting the castle or for hiking. The roads are well maintained, as are the cycling and hiking trails. Our visit was at the end of September, with slightly worse weather, so we did not experience any crowds.

The accommodation suited me well. I spent most days visiting local places of interest and particularly liked Lindau (on the Bodensee), Wangen im Allgäu, a fascinating old town with a brilliant market (Wednesdays), gorgeous old buildings and interesting street sculptures and fountains, as well as a very varied and entertaining museum, partly housed in the town walls. Lindau is well worth a visit and is quite elegant with a Mediterranean feel and some interesting shops, as well as the Old Rathaus and buildings round the buzzing harbour. Tettnang is also worth a visit if one is interested in history and architecture. An outing into the mountains further east is also worthwhile, with walks and other excursions (cable car) around the charming little town of Oberstaufen. Views of the Austrian Alps and the alpine flowers make it worth the effort, if you enjoy rambling. This is a good centre for a wide variety of activities.

It's an excellent base for day trips to Neuschwanstein Castle, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, and other beautiful spots in the Allgäu. Locally, Ottobeuren offers quaint streets, excellent bakeries, supermarkets, and cozy cafés, all within walking distance. It's the perfect place to unwind after a day of sightseeing. Whether you're into nature, history, or just looking for a peaceful retreat with great access to some of Central Europe's most iconic landmarks, Ottobeuren ticks all the boxes.

When I was there, the railway was out of order.

When I was there, the railway was out of order. But they have a substitute bus. The people who works in the information center was very helpful since I couldn't find any bus schedule on the internet.
