This was an amazing hotel from start to finish! The staff were always friendly and helpful. When we walked into our room, we were literally "wowed" by the size and detail of little extras such as changing LED lights in the shower, option to get gift with forsake of room clean and all the extras that hotels used to give (lotions and sweets on the bed). The large windows opened up to a view of the old castle, the electronics were so up-to-date and the colours of the room were calm and well-coordinated. This was truely a wonderful experience and one of the most memorial parts of our holiday. We also visited the cafe and Piano Bar and both were enjoyable. The swimming pool and sauna were quiet enough when we went and lovely to enjoy a swim at the end of the day. The pool had two extra treats with a strong vent of water and a type of wave vent, which was fun to swim with. Lovely hotel and well worth the stay!!!

FAQs about hotels in Bavaria

Romantic Region of Castles and Christmas Markets

Home to some of the world’s oldest and finest Christmas markets, Bavaria is the German region touching Lake Constance and the Austrian and Czech borders. Although evoking images of beer, lederhosen and fairytale castles, it’s much, much more than that.

Famous for Oktoberfest, its capital Munich has impressive architecture lining squares and parks, and several luxury Bavaria hotels on Booking.com. To the north, Nuremberg is a city of 2 halves: a picture-postcard old town and grandiose Nazi rally grounds housing a sensitive museum.

With a stately palace and gardens, Erlangen is on the Regnitz River which continues to beautiful Bamberg where one of the half-timbered buildings hovers above the flowing river. Bayreuth is well-known for opera performances of Wagner, a former resident, while Regensburg on the Danube River has a beautiful, medieval centre.

Unsurprisingly, most romantic Bavaria hotels are on the Romantic Road between Würzburg, with its hilltop castle, and Füssen in the foothills of the Alps. Neighbouring Hohenschwangau has 2 royal castles, one of which – Neuschwanstein – inspired the Disney castle. Oberammergau has frescoed façades and hosts a 10-yearly Passion Play, and nearby Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a top German ski resort, with Tyrolean-style houses overlooked by Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain.

Back on the Romantic Road, Augsburg has colourful buildings, and Rothenburg ob der Tauber is like stepping back in time.

Nürnberg (Nuremberg) is such a charming city, and there are lots of things to love whether you’re into history, food, or just relaxing as a couple. A few places that I had visited Imperial Castle (Kaiserburg) and Old Town (Altstadt).Just walking the cobblestone streets is a pleasure half timbered houses, narrow alleys, bridges over the Pegnitz river it was amazing. I had enjoyed allot of the street food along the way I must say allot of Turkish food outlets :)

The old medieval town centre was impressive, plenty of alleyways to explore. You need to look up - the ground floor of all these ancient buildings are often taken up with modern shops and cafes. The cathedral is impressive, but the outside is in need of attention, hence the seemingly permanent scaffolding. Liked the modern Museum of Bavarian History. Walhalla is an easy bus ride (number 5) and a pleasant walk away. Had a nice meal in sophisticated surroundings at the Hacker-Pschorr Wirtshaus, surprisingly affordable for the quality.

A very interesting historical city, much of which has been lovingly restored after devastating air raid damage in WW2. The Residence I(and its gardens) are well worth visiting, being a smaller scale version of the palaces at Versailles and Charlottenburg. Don't miss the Hofkirche while there. The Marienberg Fortress on the hill overlooking the town offers fantastic views, but is currently being extensively refurbished. It is still worth visiting though. And if you like visiting churches, you will not be disappointed here. Fantastic cuisine and wine available here. we can heartily recommend Aifach Resins and zum Stachel, the former for more contemporary cuisine and the latter for more traditional fare in traditional and historic surroundings.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber is one of my favorite old German towns because of the preserved walls and town itself. The people are friendly. The town is easy to navigate and safe for walking about and the offerings of accommodations plentiful at reasonable prices....especially Hotel Merian just outside the gates. Although the Christmas markets were closed on Totensonntag, we were happy to find the stores and restaurants open on their holiday. Even without shopping, everyone enjoyed walking the town wall/towers, exploring the nooks and crannies, and sampling foods from various eateries. Our visit was exceptional for all in our group, children and adults of varied ages. It's one of the towns you don't want to miss!

The first thing I noticed upon arriving in Ingolstadt is the cleanliness of the area from the moment I stepped off the train. I had travelled from Cologne through Berlin, Dresden and Nurnberg, stopping a view nights in each place, and Ingolstadt was the best ‘first impression’ of a city I experienced. This continued throughout the 3 days I spent there. The train station is located in a leafy area next to a beautiful park and surrounded by 3 churches. The city has numerous walkways and cycle routes alongside the river and through beautiful gardens. The city is extremely peaceful and had beautiful architecture and many historic buildings and sights. You will find good coffee shops and some of the best traditional food dishes in Germany. I LOVED this place and can’t wait to return.

We were taken to at least two eating places: One near the train station; The Curry House Restaurant where I had a taste of Pork and another restaurant, southern end of FAU Institute, we had very tasty Pizza. Getting around Erlangen is quite easy considering affordable buses are all over the place. Next time I would avoid moving around the city by taxi instead of buses

I was surprised at how much there was to see and do in this charming medieval town. We stayed for 4 nights which felt just right for visiting the castle, the Virgin Mary pilgrimage church, taking an afternoon boat ride on the Crystal ship, visiting the glass museum, and walking along the cobblestone streets to visit shops, art galleries, cafes, and bars. If we had more time I would have probably used the spot as a jumping off point for other local towns. We did a lot of walking to see the gorgeous views of the 3 rivers. Lots of history in this town - it was an unexpected gem.
