The Arena of Nîmes is a Roman amphitheatre built around 100 AD, shortly after the Colosseum of Rome, it is one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheatres in the world. The Jardins de la Fontaine are one of the first public parks in Europe and, even today, one of the most remarkable. The Museum of Romanity in Nîmes is a museum located opposite the Roman amphitheatre of Nîmes, In the heart of the Nîmoise city, faced with the two-millennial arenas, this archaeological museum presents the collections of the city. The good: Flamingos! Miles of beaches.
The good: Flamingos! Miles of beaches. Great places to go walking. Amigoland, though expensive, is fun for kids of all ages - even those in their forties. You can rent motorboats and jetskis in town. For connections, its not far from Montpellier or Marseille. The bad: Restaurants are poor in LGdR. From French to Italian to Asian they all disappointed. Mosquitoes are tenacious all around this area due to miles and miles of open shallow water. Personal verdict: go somewhere else instead.Guest review byMark & KikiIreland - 10.0

We liked the very harmonious mix of ancient history and modern attractions. The map provided by the tourist office with 40 interesting points of interest marked for you to wander in your own time very useful. We had drinks in many places but ate in La Vigourie and IX Louis only. Both delicious and great value. Even though one of us has a few mobility problems walking around in short bursts worked fine; the town is small enough. Sunday market was excellent for end of season summer dresses, roast chickens and figs! Walking the ramparts (in flat shoes) is probably a must, educational animations along the way are well done with sub-titles. A week is a good stay length, take a short train ride to the sea-side ports, architectural surprises like La Grande Motte and out into the Camargue flats.Guest review bySandraFrance - 10.0

The beauty of this place is breathtaking, the way it is nestled in between other small villages, and the markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays are not to be missed. I was especially touched by the friendliness of everybody I met, such kind people!Guest review byNicolaFrance - 4.0

There is really nothing special about Ales. There are much more scenic and historically interesting cities in this area. I stayed for two nights in order to visit the wine country south of the city. I think next time I'll stay in Arles instead.Guest review bystefenUnited States - 8.0

It's a beautiful town with an interesting (and contrevertial) history. It's also well located to visit other places such as Avignon, Orange and the great vinyards of the region. Pleanty of good restaurants and some interesting shops selling local produce and local art.Guest review byJeremy McTeagueUnited Kingdom - 8.0

We planned our stay in Anduze to enjoy the local steam train trip from Anduze to Saint Jean du Gard. Our hosts Sara and Jonathon proved to be wonderful. The conversation (in English) flowed and many stories were enjoyed. A recommended local restaurant for dinner was enjoyed plus breakfast on the terrace back at our accommodation. We planned two nights but due to car issues, only managed one.Guest review byRobJuddAustralia - 10.0

A wonderful little town with a good range of shops and places to eat. The old part of the town was so beautiful and wandering around the quiet streets was magical. It was great to be so close to the river, where you can swim and relax, as well as the famous Pont du Gard, which we walked to many times during our stay.Guest review byBeckyUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Nîmes is a beautiful and calm city, perfect for a break from big‑city life. We stayed near the Nîmes Arena, which made it easy to walk around and explore the city. There are plenty of restaurants, cafés and places to enjoy great wines. Just be aware that many places close in the middle of the day, around 3 pm, and reopen at around 7 pm – but that’s a great time to head back to your hotel and rest before going out for a nice dinner. I’d definitely recommend Les Jolis Canons for its great wine selection, Gard O Vin for excellent wines and appetisers, Cali Kitchen for breakfast or brunch, and Léone for an amazing dinner.Guest review byTaiene LisottiIreland - 6.0

The property was a little tired, Im glad I took my own bedding and towels. I am used to staying in 5 star hotels and whilst I knew this was far from 5 stars, I was disappointed to find plastic sheets on the beds. It so reminded me of an out dated Butlins holiday camp roomGuest review byMarionUnited Kingdom
