Naturally, he was devastated and thought he'd never get it back, so I immediately wrote an email to B&B customer service (on a Saturday evening!) and called the reception desk in Verdun at the same time. What can I say: I have never witnessed a nicer (and quicker) way of dealing with a forgotten object in a hotel room. L****, the incredibly friendly lady at the reception desk in the morning, responded barely 15mins after my initial call and told us that my son's gaming console had been found by cleaning staff and will be sent to our home address as quick as possible. And yes, it arrived safe (and perfectly packaged!) today - just a week after our stay. Honestly, this is a guest service I could have expected from a fancy 5* hotel but not from a budget B&B. What an absolutely excellent guest service from the hotel staff in Verdun! I can't thank their team enough. Apart from that, this B&B in Verdun is one of the best of the B&B hotel chain (I know quite some of them): Plenty of safe parking right in front of the hotel, there's a supermarket 3mins away, it has a nice outside sitting area where you can enjoy local beers from the fridge in the reception - and: the breakfast is surprisingly good. I liked the ability to walk a relatively short distances in Verdun, to a wide variety of Cafes and restaurants, and monuments. I liked the variety of restaurants near or along the water front. Also, by car, it is a short drive to major Verdun museums and battle grounds and American cemeteries in the area. So munch to see and comprehend.i would have loved staying longer, but only had a two weeks to see other destinations as well. Liked everything , the host was very helpful , warm and friendly . Bedroom was extremely spacious with tissues hairdryer , liquid soap etc . We can't comment on Verdun as we only stayed one night at the beginning of our holiday. From afar it looked interesting but the area where the hotel is situated doesn't look prosperous and quite frankly safe. This is a charming small town in a region which begs exploration. The inventor or the bicycle came from here; markets and quality shops abound alongside the river and canal shoulder to shoulder with some really impressive historical buildings and beautifully preserved traditional houses. Bustling, yet relaxing at the same time. Heart of it by the river was very warm and intriguing, apparently oriented towards the people who live there and like to meet at the sidewalk cafes to talk and read newspapers; not a prosperous town on a well-travelled circuit. Rather sleepy in places, with awkward-hanging window shutters and walls that haven't been painted in many years. The old military fortifications are extraordinary to see looming over it all.
