- From US$215.58 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 1,697 reviewsThe hotel is in a great location - just inland from a landing stage on Derwent Water and a 2-mile drive into Borrowdale from Keswick. Unfortunately, due to extremely high rainfall recently the landing stages all round the lake were cut off by high water levels - but this isn't usual and shouldn't detract visitors. Breakfasts were excellent and dinners very enjoyable. The staff were brilliant, friendly, and always keep the hotel spotless - a real asset to the hotel. One extra, thoughtful, thing are the well-stocked bird feeders just outside the restaurant windows - always a magnet for the surrounding birdlife - and a joy to see first thing in the morning.Guest review byWilliamJersey
- From US$331.10 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 632 reviewsWe stayed one night. The location was very nice and isolated from town and the main road! It was very picturesque! We stayed in the Family room with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath. The staff were very accommodating and helpful. The bedrooms were a nice size and the balcony was a nice bonus! We had a couple of sandwiches and they were both delicious and very nicely presented. We did not stay long enough to enjoy this fabulous property but we'll be back!Guest review byGeorgeUnited States

This is the place to unwind, take in the amazing 360 scenery...
This is the place to unwind, take in the amazing 360 scenery. Theres loads to do, walks, hike, rent bikes, kayaks, paddle boarding or just sit and watch the world go by. I ate at the restaurant Id booked The Glaramara hotel, they prepare exceptional food, my time was taken with hikes up Herons Pike, Scafell Pike and a good long walk around the Derwent lake. It’s a place that asks for your full attention and rewards it with a deep sense of peace. For me, Borrowdale isn't about what you do, but about what you feel—a sense of solitude and connection to something wild and enduring. I left feeling quite emotional and cant wait to return.Guest review byPatrick_AlexanderUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The apartment is well equipped and very comfortable. The setting is amazing, just a few minutes drive out of Keswick but offering great views over the surrounding countryside with a beautiful backdrop of the fells behind.Guest review byNeilUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Easy to get to shops in Keswick.
Easy to get to shops in Keswick. Good food at the Lakes Distillery and Chesters near Ambleside. Good low level walks around Grasmere. A visit to the gingerbread shop in Grasmere is a must but watch for the traffic wardens if parking outsideGuest review byAnonymous - 10.0

We are no longer able to do the hiking that we used to love, but Keswick is a great location to enjoy the beauty of the lakes in a gentler way. Fitz park is lovely and there is live music in the cafe at weekends. Good choice of restaurants, and theatre by the lake has some great productions.Guest review byPamelaUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Ideal for fell walking at all levels.
Ideal for fell walking at all levels. Some great hikes in the area such as Glaramara and Dale Head. Buy the Cicerone guide to find out more. One piece of advice is to do your research thoroughly before setting out. Take a map and compass, or have your route all planned on a GPS app. Some of the paths suddenly fork and if you take the wrong one, you can waste a lot of time and effort getting back on track. They generally don't have helpful fingerposts in the Lake District.Guest review byGeoffreyUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Portinscale is ideally situated on the shores of Derwent...
Portinscale is ideally situated on the shores of Derwent Water with fantasic views of the lake and the fells. It is perfectly situated for a short walk into Keswick with all its facilities and public transport for access to the rest of the Lake District, or you can take the launch across the lake or catch the bus. From Portinscale there is easy access to walk around the lake and there are 2 Marinas for boating, canoeing and paddle boarding. The café is and lovely and covers a full range of meals at reasonable prices. It also sells a few essential catering essentials. There is a pub and hotel in the village which both serve food. The staff are all very friendly but as at April 24 both establishments require investment in facilities and food quality. The village of Braithwaite is also close , it has a small shop for provisions with 2 great pubs/hotels that are very popular for food.Guest review byElizabethUnited Kingdom - 10.0

My husband and I have visited all over the Lake District, but keep going back to Keswick, there’s something about it, it’s peaceful as well as busy, great shops. The walks an exceptional, views are amazing and Derwent water is stunning. Love every thing about Keswick.Guest review byMigs2United Kingdom - 10.0
It's the most stunning location, but so hammered by tourists...
It's the most stunning location, but so hammered by tourists. And, sadly, the river has been controlled and canalised, especially on stretch from Seatoller to Seathwaite. The whole area needs to be declared an SSSi and farmers compensated accordingly. Those woods are just clinging on but are vulnerable to climate change. There's an argument for making it less car friendly, perhaps introduce a toll charge or at least make sure those buses turn up every time (there were none between 12 and 1pm, anywhere in the valley)Guest review byGaleUnited Kingdom
