FAQs about hotels on Isle of Wight
Wonders of Wordplay and Nature’s Way
With dramatic cliffs and unspoilt countryside, the Isle of Wight sits off England’s south coast. Ferries from Southampton cross The Solent to Cowes, a sleepy port which bursts into life during its annual regatta – Cowes Week.
Over the inlet is Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s summer home, while Henry VIII was behind the construction of the castle in Yarmouth. Neighbouring Freshwater is the closest town to the multi-coloured sands of Alum Bay. Next door are the Needles which you can’t thread, as the Wonders of the Isle of Wight saying goes. These eroded white cliff formations, one with a lighthouse, extend into the English Channel at the island’s south-western tip.
Near the southern tip is Chale, next to Blackgang Chine children’s amusement park, and close to Ventnor, on a hill sloping to the sea. Around the coast are the most popular beach resorts: Sandown with its nature reserve, and Shanklin with its cute Old Village and the most Isle of Wight hotels with indoor pools on Booking.com. Seaview also has a nature reserve, and nearby Ryde is a Victorian beach resort whose long pier is the docking point for ferries from Portsmouth.
Other hotels on the Isle of Wight are found in Wootton Bridge, with its steam railway, and the county town Newport, home to Carisbrooke Castle.

- From US$250.83 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very good - What previous guests thought, 339 reviewsThe exceptionally helpful and professional staff, together with the welcoming and relaxing atmosphere of the hotel, guaranteed a most enjoyable stay. Our room was extremely comfortable and most attractive with an en-suite bathroom in which everything functioned perfectly. Breakfast at the hotel was one of the high points of the day and for the staff, nothing was too much trouble: the dishes served from the extensive menu were all quite delicious. The Royal truly is a most remarkable hotel.Guest review byNicholasBrazil
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.0Very good - What previous guests thought, 919 reviewsYou couldn't ask for a better hotel to stay at. Centrally located steps from the pier in Ryde, you can drop your bags off at your room and start exploring the city right away. The listed building is gorgeous, and oozes charm and character. Staff are exceedingly friendly and helpful, willing to recommend places to see and where to eat. The breakfast in the morning was a great way to start the day, with many options to satisfy even a picky eater.Guest review byAmandaCanada

Our waiter at breakfast was extremely friendly and helpful giving us tips on what to see and how to get there. On our first night, the hot water faucet in the shower didn't work. I told reception the next morning and by the time we got back to the room that afternoon, a new faucet had been installed. Now that's service!Guest review byJamesUnited States

Shanklin is such a picturesque village and very clean.
Shanklin is such a picturesque village and very clean. It is hilly but after a few days of walking, you get used to this! I loved visiting Shanklin Chine. Here's a tip: if you are staying in Shaklin, visit the Chine at the beginning of your stay as you are then entitled to walk through the Chine for the rest of the week for no additional cost! This provides an interesting and picturesque walk leading directly down to Shanklin beach. My favourite dining experience was at The Steamers Inn. The staff are so friendly and the venue feels like you are on the continent overlooking the sea! Last but not least, the regular bus service is fantastic. The No. 3 bus covers the east of the island and also into Newport, so getting around the island is easy!Guest review byFionaUnited Kingdom - 6.0

It could be that it was the end of the season but I found Sandown to be very tired looking. The pier was full of life and colourful. Plenty of regular buses to take you around. Nice walk along the seafront to the zoo.Guest review byJeanUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Good bus network. Two restaurants I would recommend.
Good bus network. Two restaurants I would recommend. "The Alamo" (cowboy/western theme) opposite the station/beach. Another is Turkish type food. Sorry do not know its name. It is near the Yelf's Hotel, Union Street.Guest review byChristopherUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Cowes is quite busy and noisy, but we expected that.
Cowes is quite busy and noisy, but we expected that. If you want a quiet IOW break, choose one of the resorts on the other side of the island, but for the buzz of the world's yachting capital stick to Cowes. Bus services to all parts of the island are frequent and plentiful.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
Quiet and scenic bay.
Quiet and scenic bay. Excellent fish and chips at Golden Sands. The Spyglass pub looks over the bay and does lovely food. Toni's does great toasties and boozey hot chocolates. Really lovely vibe and lovely to see so many dog walkers. Ventnor Boat Charters do a good boat trip along the bay and they're really friendly. It has real charm and a good place to stroll along and forget your worries.Guest review byBenUnited Kingdom - 8.0

We stayed in Carisbrooke, a bus ride to the centre of Newport, which is a great base for buses to all parts of the island. Loads of pubs and eateries to choose from, and all the shops you could wish for. We are keen walkers, and there are some lovely routes around Newport.Guest review byLindaUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Freshwater was ok but the beach was not dog friendly so we went to Compton beach a few times, the dog loved it. The Red lion pub served lovely food but you have to book, it gets a bit busy, but the Vine pub serves proper pub grub and their homemade pies were delicious , booking is also recommended but not vital.Guest review byWilliamUnited Kingdom - 10.0

I found Bembridge full of surprises , I came across the last windmill on the island, the beach is so nice , the people are so friendly and very helpful, I felt welcome and safe. There was a book on Bembridge in the flat I rented and it was so interesting that I have ordered a copy for myself.Guest review byjackieUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Great location for foot passengers on the ferry and a wide selection of busses to travel futher into the island. Lots of cafe's and restaurants. Qaiunt little town with some lovely old buildings, a pier and a handful of galleries and independant shops selling gorgeous unusual things. Can be "done" in a relaxed leisurely day.Guest review byLesleyUnited Kingdom - 6.0

The cleanliness of the caravan which was carried out by Aimee and Laura - brilliant team and thank you. The area is nice and a walk around the lake is peaceful. The kiddies play park area is small but close to the restaurant which is helpful. The restaurant was over priced - a small bottle of coke £4.40 and beef burgers from 17.95 ! The food was tasteless and you did not get a lot for your money. The wait was over an hour - simply not impressed at all. If you want a good meal take yourself to the Crab in Shanklin where a kiddies meal will cost you £3.95 and it is bigger than the adult meal at Rookley. The restaurant was closed on the following evening so no take away available (for those who may have wanted to use it) There was no reasons the staff did not seem to know the answer. The indoor swimming pool dirty - the water was not clear and the bottom and sides of the pool were slimy - I would not use it again - just because you can smell chlorin does not mean the pool is clean! The lifeguards did not look particularly bothered about was what going on - maybe their wages are too low!? There is a night club which has kiddie evenings - so for a family that is nice - It is a real shame as all the facilities are on site but are just not available. If the aim is self-catering then do that and check around the area for reasonably priced pubs and cafes -Guest review byLesleyUnited Kingdom
