A Perfect Combination of Culture and Fun
A favoured weekend destination, the island of Andros is only an hour and a half away from Athens. Named after Andros, a hero descending from the line of God Apollo, this beautiful island features traditional villages, golden beaches, high mountains, small rivers and green valleys.
Featuring great nautical tradition and home to famous Greek sailors, Andros is not similar with any other island in the Cyclades. This small paradise is a great cultural destination thanks to its many museums and their unique collections of paintings, sculptures and archaeological exhibits.
The lovely Chora is the capital of Andros and one of the most popular villages of the island. Wander around the narrow alleys, admire the Neoclassical and Venetian-style houses, and admire the beautiful stone bridge.
Rich in history, the island has several towers including the tower of Ayios Petros and Fryktoria. Built by Venetians, the Pano Kastro was the largest city in Andros during the Middle Ages.
Built over a gorgeous natural harbour, the resort of Batsi has a sandy beach, shallow waters and nice taverns serving local specialties. Booking.com has a great selection of hotels, apartments and guest houses in the magnificent Batsi.

- From US$137.64 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 243 reviewsIt was an unexpected but excellent choice. The hotel was spotlessly clean, and the staff worked tirelessly to ensure our comfort and happiness. From check-in to check-out, it was a wonderful experience. The welcome drinks were refreshing as we were exhausted because of the long travel day. We enjoyed the pool to cool down, had a local beer by the pool, and then headed to the nearby beach for a short dip. The turn-down service was a pleasant surprise, and we enjoyed the little treats before a good, peaceful sleep. Breakfast was great with plenty of choices and served by helpful staff. Parking was convenient and secure. Although we didn't have time, the spa seemed welcoming, but we will definitely use it next time.Guest review byOzanTurkey
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.4Very good - What previous guests thought, 326 reviewsBeautiful art deco hotel with newly and tastefully furnished/decorated rooms in white. Nice balcony with furniture. There is plenty of hot water and toiletries in the bathroom, a fridge and kettle with cups, saucers and wine glasses. Exceptional pool area with an abundance of sunbeds, uv parasols, grass, and dappled shade under the trees. Huge pool. There is almost certainly a serviced bar in the pool area in high season, but it was very quiet in the hotel in early June. 10-15 minute walk into the main part of Chora for bars and restaurants and it's a €45-50 taxi from Gavrio port. Very friendly and helpful receptionist who booked restaurant and taxi for us as well as giving good recommendations during our stay.Guest review byJoannaUnited Kingdom
- From US$102.02 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 315 reviewsWe got a room with a sea view which really exceeded our expectations, we literally never wanted to leave the terrace. During the day you see the see the sea and at night there was a beautiful moon and many stars. We literally woke up with the sound of the waves. The old town was less then 5 minutes away where most of the restaurants and shops were. The owner was super nice and very friendly. He gave us a map of where everything is and he gave recommendations on what is a must see and what we should avoid. We asked him if we can use the hose from the garden to clean up our car but while we were in our room he cleaned the car on his own. I truly recommend this place.Guest review byMilaNorth Macedonia
- From US$87.13 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.3Very good - What previous guests thought, 526 reviewsI really enjoyed my stay at Mare Vista Hotel - Epaminondas. From the first minute everything felt welcoming and warm, like being at home. The hotel is beautiful, with authentic Greek style: simple, clean, comfortable, with everything one might need. The location is also great, I had a room with a beautiful sea view. The hotel is very close to the beach. Breakfast had a wide and tasty selection: fruits, vegetables, cheeses, meats, and fresh bakery every morning. Special thanks to Sophia, the hotel’s administrator — she brings so much light and good mood into everything. Would definitely come back.Guest review byStetsenkoUkraine
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 7.4Good - What previous guests thought, 789 reviewsThe hotel was in an excellent location with spectacular views of the sea and mountains surrounding the island. The staff was especially helpful, friendly and informative. We particularly liked the pool.... it was large and well maintained. The morning breakfast was also fabulous, with a variety of difference choices. The hotel was also an easy walk to the port (7-10 minutes) and some of the restaurants and shops there as well. Recommended to be sure to upgrade to a room with a view... it will be well worth it.Guest review byLeonardUnited States
- From US$154.80 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 112 reviewsIt is located on a magnificent small hill, with a scenic view to the sea and the surrounding nature. Upon your arrival, smiling faces are there to welcome you and make you feel like home. Sofia and her family have already taken care of everything before your arrival and they are always there in case you need something. I would love to go back, just to relive this warmth and amazing Greek “filoxenia”! Congratulations for your efforts and for the love you give in what you do.Guest review byEleniFrance
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.7Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 215 reviewsThe staff, the room and the location. We had a problem with our room the first day, but Alkis and his colleagues solved the problem perfectly. We had the best room of the hotel, with a great veranda and a magnificant view. All the staff, including those on the beach, are very friendly, cheerful and service orientated and want to give you the best holiday. Breakfast was great as well, with Orpheus as a very sympathetic coffeemaker.Guest review byAusNetherlands

We spent all our time at Kaliva Beach Lounge. Miss Irene was warm and welcoming and provided a great breakfast every morning. Each day was something new- a special bread or a different egg dish. They really do make an effort for a nice start to the day.Guest review byJamesGreece

It’s the best place to stay on the island as it has something for everyone. Amazing beaches, awesome cafes and fantastic taverns with breathtaking views. The beaches are crystal clear and there are heaps to choose from. All within walking distance.Guest review byDinaAustralia - 4.0
Not a hospitable island!
Not a hospitable island! Third class and expensive facilities. Most of the locals are rude and it seems that they do not like visitors! If you want to visit Greece there are at least 100 beautiful islands and places to visit . This was the worst experience that I had in Greece and I feel ashamed that these guys claim to be Greeks Greeks are very friendly people ! Most of the islands even if they are small offer very good facilities! Do not waste your money and time in Andros . Concluding I would like to mention that I was very Impressed by the “Skalakia “ restaurant in chora! Excellent food and service. Mrs Maria was extremely friendly and professional. Make sure you reserve a table ahead of time.Guest review byHelenUnited States - 6.0

We were there in May so not quite season. It’s very small but served as a good base to visit the island. Some good tavernas. Bit nothing else to do there. Not a beach nearby that is nice for swimming or tanning so would probably recommend Batsi over Gavrio.Guest review byChristineNamibia - 10.0

This is an ideal place if you don't like to be in the capital city with a lot of noise and traffic. You are far enough from the street and have your own peace and quiet, and at the same time you are very close to the city where there is entertainment and an active nightlife. Everything you need is in the area, restaurants, shops, beaches etcGuest review byMiroslav PetrovicSerbia - 10.0

This is an amazing natural beach, some parts are sandy and others with small white pebbles. Not a lot of people around on the time of my visit (June). The surrounding landscape is beautiful. There is a small tavern above the beach.Guest review byMichael PapaioannouGreece - 10.0

Ano Aprovato presents an optimal setting for hiking...
Ano Aprovato presents an optimal setting for hiking enthusiasts. Beginners can embark on a picturesque route stretching from the western region to the heart of Andros, connecting with the semi-mountainous village of Ano Aprovato. This path predominantly traces the historic trail traversing the western and southern slopes of Mount Petalo. It maintains a relatively level trajectory, offering captivating vistas spanning from the mountain's coastal edge to the island's interior. Spectacular panoramas unfold, encompassing views of the sea, the valley of Megalos Potamos River, and the coastal town of Chora with its twin bays. For more seasoned hikers seeking a challenge, there's a 10.9km point-to-point trail near Ano Aprovato. This route, deemed moderately demanding, typically requires around 3 hours and 15 minutes to complete. Ideal for both hiking and running, this trail promises solitude amidst nature's embrace, with encounters with fellow explorers being rare. Accessible year-round, it boasts timeless beauty, beckoning adventurers at any season.Guest review byDimitrisGreece - 10.0

International cuisine but look for the hidden gems in little back streets with local food. Local taxi service in the square -but walk...its healthier! We had no children with us but this isnt 'waterworld'....take the kids to some fantastic quiet beaches away from the hoi polloi- theyll have more of an adventure of discovery.Guest review bySteveUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Lots to do on this beautiful island for all ages. We visited Gerolimni waterfall, Cave Foros, Korthi, the olive mill, the comtemporary art gallery. It was lovely to walk round the town and look at the statues, ancient fort the lighthouse a d takein the ambience. The local dive instructor was brilliant. This destination is delightful, offering a wide array of culinary options. The local cheeses are exceptional, and you'll discover restaurants that cater to both casual diners and those seeking a more upscale experience. The ambiance is tranquil, making it an ideal retreat. Renting a car is advisable to fully explore the island’s beauty. While September may be slightly cooler, it also offers a more serene atmosphere.Guest review byMelissaIreland
