Very nice and modern hotel with spacious bright and comfortable rooms. The staff was very friendly and the cleaners as well, they kept our room clean and tidy every day. The location was very close to the centre the only issue is that the streets there are very narrow and you can get easily lost. If you are going there with a car you need to be very careful

Fantastic location, by a beautiful beach and a nice 15m walk to the histroic centre. The room has stunning views, was very comfortable and spotless clean. That terrace was difficult to leave. The breakfast was delicious and with a lot of choice. Everybody from the staff were always very attentive and professional to any request. Thanks a lot for this beautiful experience ... Centuries of History, Days of Sunshine

The largest Greek island, mountainous Crete has stunning beaches, plenty of history and as much or little nightlife as you want. Party town Malia has many bars, clubs and restaurants on its Strip.

Along the coast is the capital Heraklion, a bustling city home to many Crete hotels on the beach, and a Venetian castle guarding its port. Its archaeological museum includes finds from the island’s Minoan era, while just inland are the Roman remains of Knossos.

Also boasting a Venetian castle is Rethymnon, a popular resort with a good number of Crete hotels with private pools on Booking.com. Loggerhead turtles nest in season on the sandy beaches here and at Chania, an important port with an attractive waterfront set against the backdrop of mountains.

On the other side of the island is Aghios Nikolaos, a small fishing town with a picturesque harbour. Just north is Elounda, a popular family resort, and offshore is Spinaloga island, inspiration behind the book ‘The Island’. Matala in the south has a bohemian vibe and intriguing cliff dwellings, while Paleokastro in the east borders Europe’s largest palm forest at Vai.

We could go on and on about magnificent Crete beaches, but whichever resort you choose, you can be almost guaranteed fantastic food and a good helping of sunshine.

    We couldn't have been happier with our choice of a hotel! It's located a few kilometers outside of the center and the old town but this was only a positive thing for us - lying by the pool (a big and clean pool for that matter) it was actually calm and quiet with only some birdsong to be heard. The hotel also provided a free shuttle every half an hour to the center and back so the distance was not an issue whatsoever. The staff was a m a z i n g, I can't compliment them enough. It must've been the warmest welcome I've received at any hotel, in any country, and they kept being so genuinely kind and helpful for our whole stay. The restaurant upstairs offers you the best sunset view in town and we actually ended up having dinner there almost every night since the food was also great there. The breakfast buffet was so great as well, with a big variety of food and omelets made to order. If (and hopefully, when) I return to Chania, I will definitely stay at Royal Sun again.

    We loved every minute of our stay. From the minute we walked in, we loved it. I believe it is the most beautiful reception I have ever seen - the ocean as a backdrop is just picture perfect. The lobby smelled amazing and we were welcomed in the most hospitable manner. The service was outstanding - it was more than the usual friendly and polite service, everyone made us feel welcome and well taken care of. They service we experienced was true hospitality with heart. The breakfast had the most amazing selection. The views all around the resort are incredible - starting from the lobby, to the room, to the pool, we loved that you could see the ocean from almost every angle.     Chania has everything - history, charm, restaurants, shops, plenty to do and see, or simply for sea and sand, which are in walking distance. We did two coach trips, and didn't need to hire a car. The locals were kind and funny and relaxed - great atmosphere.

    The town was buzzing and full of life. Some excellent restaurants (peskesi a stand out) Beaches were stunning especially when blessed with perfect summer weather. BUT, the traffic is terrible, parking is difficult, road-rules are optional and the lane-ways are very narrow. Visiting Knossos is an absolute must.

    Amazing Resort and extensive facilities on site. Staff are amazing. Also one of the best mani/pedi I ever had at the salon. Resort is about 30 minutes from airport, and would say for a 5* Europe resort, this lives up to expectation, but don't compare to a 5* Caribbean or Mexico Resort, so bear that in mind. We stayed at the Ocean view room which had spectacular views. The Rocky beach was just fantastic with the lounges and beds, and considering how busy this resort is, never noticed it and never felt overcrowded, and you never had to reserve benches or lounges by the beach or pool, there was more than enough to go round and even more spare. A la Carte restaurants that were amazing and my favourites are Umi (Sushi), Azzuro (Italian), Thalassa for breakfast & lunch, Poseidon. A real let down of the restaurants was Nami, only delicious items were the Starters.     Reth is our favourite holiday town.

    Reth is our favourite holiday town. We like a bustly town for 2 weeks and this is just right. Lots of restaurants, bars, cafes, shops, so plenty to do. We like the fact that it is not a loud party town. The beach is fantastic with each restaurant having their own section of sunbeds - we used Gorgona beach / restaurant - 2 sunbeds and umbrella is 12 euros which is remarkably cheap when we were paying 25 euros at least in Spain and Portugal. You can bring your own food and drink there but can also have beach service or eat in the restaurant, so nice to have the freedom. There is a wonderful supermarket next to the restaurant which sells english papers, magazines, pots of fresh fruit, sandwiches, plus everything else you might need. There is also a wonderful supermarket further along called Fresh Corner which has a good selection of cakes, sandwiches, pizza, fresh juices etc which you can take down to the beach. The sea is very shallow and sandy - it can be a bit windy some days and then the waves are quite big and powerful but ususally the sea is very flat and calm. The open top bus tour is good - 20 euros each but you can hop and off all day and visits the various sites around the town. It takes 90 mins to do the whole route without getting off. The dotto train is fun - 10 euros each - takes 45 mins. The castle is a good place to visit. There is a market twice a week Thursday and Saturday. Thursday it is up by the park on the main road, Sat it is next to the bus station. Its quite small considering the size of the town but has a mix of fruit, veg, clothes etc. There are lots of boat trips you can book. Great selection of bars, restaurants, cafes - with a good mix of cheap kebab type places or traditional food.

    Great location (10-15 walk to the city center). There is nice beach in front of the hotel if you are lazy to go far. Clean and specious room (cleaning service every day), two good pools, no kids, great staff (everyone has been very nice and friendly). About the kitchen: good food, every day different menu for lunch and dinner, a special complement to sweets. Beer and white wine were also good. The only thing we didn’t like - cocktails, really bad quality.

    Kissamos offered us a wonderful mix of relaxation and local charm. The nightlife was a pleasant surprise, with cozy bars and lively tavernas where we enjoyed delicious food and drinks. Evening walks through the town square and the nearby streets filled with local shops and traditional products were some of the highlights of our stay. It's a great place for couples looking for a laid-back yet authentic Cretan experience.

    Malia is a great base for exploring eastern Crete,as it is well served by public transport,car hire is easy and reasonable,but if you just want to eat,drink ,sunbathe and play in a pool,on a beach or in a club or bar it is great too.

    Difficult to judge because we came early in the season when there was a cold wind blowing and not all the places were open. However, there didn't seem to be many places to eat [not a problem for us as there was one excellent place, though would be a problem peak season] . There were a number of apparently abandoned and ill-maintained buildings, which made the place appear less attractive.

    It was very pretty and friendly, not too busy although I imagine it would be earlier in season. We visited end Aug into Sept. Lots of choice of restaurants and bars. Can get the bus to surrounding towns and villages or boat trips round the coast. Close to the island of Spinalonga which is interesting to visit.

    This is a great place for relaxing holidays by the sea.amy beautiful beaches around, a nice village center with mice shops, restaurants , cafes. Not so crowded in comparison with other places in Crete. Good prices in every thing
