Kalamata is a wonderful, modern greek city. It has a decent population, nice long beach friendly for pedestrians and cyclists. There are also other beaches and seanic spots within an hour of Kalamata. There are ancient historic cites nearby, such as the nearby ancient city of Messene. The city blends a traditional feel in its Old Town, which climbs a castle hill, with modern infrastructure, and hosts cultural events like the annual Dance Festival. Beautiful waterfront and a friendly vibe. Great place to base yourself for day trips in the surrounding area. Pylos is an authentic Greek town, great for walking and people watching. A place that makes you think, “I could live here.” The castle, with its sensational views and nice little museum, is well worth a couple hours. Majestic with a castle and the crystal blue waters as a backdrop. Methoni is for everyone - it has history, beach, shopping, friendly and welcoming people and amazing food. I highly recommend making a reservation at Castro (a reservation because you will not get a table unless you do) for a delightful cuisine and spectacular view at sunset. You will not regret it. It is a bit of an odd place.
It is a bit of an odd place. The beaches are beautiful and picturesque, however there are no facilities on the beaches (no sunbeds, beachbars or even toilets). Any beaches with facilities are private to the exclusive Navarino Resort, and therefore you have no access. A lot of it is a nature conservation area, which is probably why its so beautiful, and walking around is lovely, but there isn't much else to do. The restaurants are very good, and a cut above those we encountered elsewhere in Greece - bit more expensive but definitely worth it. All the villas give you the privacy of having your own relaxing space near a very popular beach. Each villa has a garage for your car which allows the car to be protected and kept cool during the day. The villas are kept clean and serviced daily. Above all you have Konstantina which is your host and she is always willing to assist you with anything which you may require. There are many restaurants within a 5 km radius of the property. You are close to one of Greece's most famous beaches Voidokoilia and also Gialova which has many restaurants and bars.
