The organic garden, pool, views, hot tub, the room with the terrace, friendly staff. This was such a special stay for us having got married next door at the church. We will definitely come back here for an anniversary. Also the breakfast was the best I’ve had at any hotel.

Everything about Il San Pietro di Positano is exceptional – from the warm, personalised experience provided by the staff to the stunning amenities that make every moment unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and valued; the General Manager greeted us personally, we were offered complimentary drinks, and enjoyed a wonderful tour of the hotel. Our room was beautifully appointed, featuring an incredibly comfortable bed, breathtaking views from our balcony, and exquisite finishes throughout. It exceeded our expectations in every way. Breakfast at Il San Pietro was a dream. The buffet offered an impressive selection of fresh, high-quality options, with something for every taste. From pastries and fruit to local delicacies, everything was beautifully presented and delicious. We especially loved the personalised touch – anything we requested, from perfectly poached eggs to delicate crepes and excellent espressos, was made on the spot. It was the ideal way to start each day, with fresh, varied options and stunning views to match. A standout highlight of our stay was the complimentary boat ride to Amalfi, where we enjoyed a picturesque swim in crystal-clear waters. The hotel’s amenities are equally outstanding, from the scenic outdoor gym and tennis court with a view to the exclusive beach club nestled against the cliffs – each detail truly exceptional. Every aspect of our experience at Il San Pietro was curated to perfection, seamlessly blending luxury with genuine hospitality. From the world-class service to the awe-inspiring setting, this was, without a doubt, the best hotel experience of our lives. We left feeling rejuvenated, pampered, and already planning our return. Everything was great, Especially the rooms are very clean, the corner room (#3) was very spacious. The balcony of the room where we also had our breakfast was very nice, wonderful view. They serve breakfast to the room which we liked. Breakfast was very good as you got to order and do a selection from a detailed list in advance to be delivered on the time of your choice within the serving window (8:00-9:30). I had parking reserved (it's two blocks away in a private larger garage, the spaces are small tough but that's the standard here) and they followed me to show the way. The gesture of a few free soft drinks in the fridge is well appreciated too on a hot day when you were not fully prepared yourself.

Amalfi Coast highlights

Conca Dei Marini

Home to the Emerald Grotto, sea-lovers can snorkel in the crystalline waters, while foodies can savour Sfogliatella, a sweet shell-shaped pastry from the Convent of Santa Rosa.

‘Painted Village’ of Furore

Small but full of character, this stunning hillside town gets its other moniker from the colourful open-air museum of murals lining its bougainvillea-lined streets.

Romantic Ravello

While Annunziata Historic Building hosts recitals, Villa Rufolo also delights with spectacular views and concerts in its gorgeous gardens.

Handcrafted goods from the Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast is a home to unique artisan products. Positano is known for its linen beachwear, while Maiori is where you can shop for handmade Gladiator leathersandals.

Natural caves of Praiano

Set in natural caves, revellers can head to Africana Famous Club and admire the shimmering waters below. Extravagant live performance and lobster dinners are also on offer.

The ceramics trail of Vietri sul Mare

While colourful ceramics can be admired up and down the Amalfi Coast, the traditions of the master ceramist are a closely guarded secret in this picturesque coastal town.

The fishing village and anchovy paradise of Cetara

Experts at preserving anchovies, trattorias here are known for their fresh homemade pasta with fermented anchovy essence Colatura di Alici, topped with crunchy pumpkin.

Lemony pastries at Piazza Cantilena

Sal de Riso Patisserie is perfect for people watching with some chilled lemon mousse, a zesty lemon sorbet, or a generous slice of pear and ricotta cake.

Historic Piazza del Duomo

The grand staircase at 9th-century Amalfi Cathedral is a must-see. Sample chocolate-covered orange candy overlooking the bougainvillea terraces and turquoise waters.

Sunbathing along the Amalfi Coast

Crystal clear waters and endless stretches of golden sands run from Duoglio Beach in Amalfi to Cavallo Morto Beach in Maiori, while the hidden Laurito Beach near Positano is wonderfully secluded.

FAQs about hotels in Amalfi Coast

A Feast For the Eyes

Comprised of brightly coloured villages cascading down sheer cliffs, the Amalfi Coast is on the opposite side of a peninsula from Sorrento. Between the UNESCO World Heritage-listed villages are lemon groves and winding roads hugging the coastline that are definitely not for the nervous driver!

In wonderful Positano, delicately positioned houses somehow manage to cling to the cliffs. The next village along is Praiano, on a flatter piece of land and with a 12th-century church. Furore in the hills above a fjord has its own winery.

Amalfi itself is picturesque, as it rises from the harbour to the top of its 13th-century cathedral. As the coast’s largest town, it has a good selection of bars, restaurants and accommodation. Adjoining it is Atrani, a fishing village with a dramatic, beachside road supported by arches.

High above is Ravello whose Villa Rufolo’s landscaped gardens offer magnificent panoramas of the coastline below. Due to its position, this town boasts the Amalfi Coast hotels with the best views and, of course, prices to match. Back at sea level Minori and Maiori have the longest beaches.

Due of all this splendor, you might struggle to find cheap Amalfi Coast hotels, but there is also a selection of affordable apartments and B&Bs on Booking.com, and in any case the fantastic views makes the price well worth it.

It´s beautiful, no doubt.

It´s beautiful, no doubt. And I certainly rate it higher than Positano. But it´s so so busy, full of groups, and access is agonisingly slow, the infrastructure being inadequate for the amount of traffic. It feels like a place setup for tourists, which detracts from its natural beauty. I prefer the grittiness of Napoli, which for all its troubles, feels authentically Italian.

Love Positano, our second time visiting.

Love Positano, our second time visiting. However, very crowded in September and can be overwhelming. Great place for a few days, especially when planning to explore nearby towns, including Capri. One of our favorite restaurants that we returned to on this trip, which is still incredible is Donna Rosa, which is just up the hill from Positano.

Ravello was perfect in every way. Lots to see and do. Great restaurants, outstanding views, friendly locals. Having been to Amalfi Coast staying at the Poseidon in Positano, and Punta Tragara in Capri, I would stay in Ravello, because you don't have the HORDES of people from the cruise ships etc. We enjoyed 11 days in AnaCapri, and 14 days in Ischia.....no crowds.

Agerola is an area, we stayed in Bomerano. Great little village with a few nice eateries and cafes. Buses from Amalfi are reasonably frequent and reliable, buy your tickets in advance from tabacchi. It's fun on the bus up and down the mountain! Just be careful how far your stay is from the village centre if you are relying on buses.

Lots of ceramic shops selling almost the same items. many good restaurants within walking distance. Arrive by train then take the accensore (elevator) down to the town - the lift-well is lined with blue tiles and fish. Gorgeous. The ferry stops down at the bay and bus 68 takes you up to the town for 1.4euro. Buy the ticket from the ladies in the ceramic shop near the bus stop before you board and validate on the bus.

Praiano is a perfect place to stay on the Amalfi Coast.

Praiano is a perfect place to stay on the Amalfi Coast. Nice and quiet but with local shops and restaurants. One way on bus to Positano and other way to Amalfi in a short time, so very easy to reach all areas of Amalfi coast. The little local supermarket was perfect for buying supplies. A good range of restaurants in beautiful romantic settings overlooking the coast. The church is divine and the people are very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend Praiano for staying on the Amalfi Coast.

Minori is the perfect town to explore the Amalfi coast from.

Minori is the perfect town to explore the Amalfi coast from. It’s quiet with a nice beach and enough restaurants including a famous pastry shop. Lines for ferries are minimal. The path of lemons was stunning and we also took a taxi to Ravello and walked down to Atrani and Amalfi and then ferried home. Both these walks were beautiful. Even in October, Positano and Amalfi were crazy busy and heading back to Minori was a relief!

Perfect location for exploring the Amalfi Coast.

Perfect location for exploring the Amalfi Coast. Half an hour driving to Amalfi, half an hour driving to Positano. For hiking the "Path of gods" you start immediately at the residence. For getting to the "Fiordo" you descend the one thousand stairs just below the apartment. Small market shop and minimarket just near by. Also very good restaurants just near the house. Recommended
