FAQs about hotels in Calabria
Italy’s Best-Kept Secret
Boasting fantastic beach resorts on its 2 coastlines, Calabria forms the toe of the Italian boot. A favourite of Italian holidaymakers, it is in many respects the region that Italy doesn’t want you to know about.
With some of Booking.com’s best Calabria hotels, Tropea has a fabulous beach at the foot of sheer cliffs topped by buildings. Neighbouring Capo Vaticano has beautiful beaches and a craggy coastline, and Scilla is another amazing Tyrhennian coast resort, immortalised in Greek mythology.
Gioia Tauro has an important port, as does Reggio Calabria, the region’s largest city and birthplace of Gianni Versace. It has an excellent archaeological museum housing the Riace bronzes – Greek statues from the 5th century BC. Just north at Villa San Giovanni, trains drive straight onto ferries to Messina in Sicily.
Inland is Aspromonte National Park, one of Calabria’s top tourist sights, while the Pollino National Park is in the north. Its nearest city is Cosenza with a tranquil old town and 13th-century castle. South is Lamezia Terme, site of the region’s main airport, and nearby Catanzaro is the Calabrian capital.
Crotone on the Ionian coast has a long, sandy beach, as does Soverato. Roccella Ionica’s beach is overlooked by a 16th-century castle, and inland Gerace is one of Italy’s best preserved medieval villages.

- From US$179.73 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.3Very good - What previous guests thought, 63 reviewsWe came without any prior research of the property, just in last minute decision... and first day was cultural shock :), but at the end of the day we like it so much, because of the quietness of the property, stunning sunsets, beachfront, the storey of the plot, with the highest part being about 60 meters above sea level where was our apartment situated. Also there are a shuttle who moves you up or down if you are not relay on your legs :) - The apartment was well conditioned and dries the air, cause the humidity outside was extremely high :) - The beds was comfy - The parking lot was near to the flat - There was two swimming pools, one on our level with SPA and one with salt water on the sea level. - The bar and the restaurant prepares typical Italian cuisines - At the end, but not last, the staff was so friendly and politeGuest review byKavrakirovBulgaria
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 6.8Pleasant - What previous guests thought, 404 reviewsA lovely large hotel which at first shocks with the many rooms, but is very well located and very comfortable for guests. Clean, large room with a large terrace. The restaurant is on the second floor and has a wonderful view of the pool and the sea. In the evening there is wonderful entertainment with songs and dances for children and adults. There is free parking next to the hotel.Guest review byPirelyBulgaria

Such and incredible place!
Such and incredible place! It ticks all the boxes: reachable by train/airplane, beautiful village, incredible beach. You can easily reach by boat the Eolian islands or via train Scilla and Reggio Calabria.Guest review byGallarello - 10.0
A very hip area with tons and tons of shopping.
A very hip area with tons and tons of shopping. Most shops small but literally miles(plural) of them. Food choices abound Beaches clean and mature. A very clean bright city with a vibe. Temperature is very moderate but if no clouds it does get hot. Roads are very tight. Good police presence everywhere we went. Just there, not hassling folks. Almost zero “street people”.Guest review byAnthony D - 10.0

great sea for snorkeling but sometimes jellyfish on Grotticelle beach (very painful for kids) - in Tropea no jellyfish and calm sea all the times. in summer has the area problems with water supply - before check-in ask the owner of the property of the state of water in the tanks (we had bad luck in July, our apartment ran out of water twice a week - very stressful) the beaches of Capo Vaticano are available by car (parking is for 1,50 Eur/hour) or on foot 20min walk downhill (but up the hill in hot weather is guite a challenge) snorkeling in this sea is like in an aquarium :-)Guest review byBarboraCzech Republic - 10.0

This was our first stop after arriving from an overnight flight from Toronto. We stayed just one night before heading out on our travels along the coast of Calabria. Glad we got to experience the beauty of Pizzo, including a visit to Murat Castle and the fascinating ancient Church of Piedigrotta carved into the rocks and its stone statues. There is a nice beach in front of the church too where people were swimming and sun bathing. Parking is at the top for both at 5 euros for an hour or 10 for longer. The town square is full of tartufo and gelato shops. The seafront is lined with restaurants for dining.Guest review byBahia DelrayCanada - 10.0

A delightful little town with an old castle and picturesque views. Not many shops around in the center, however. Only found one farmacia and one supermarket other than a small alimentari. Great Lidos on the beach where one can eat and drink while enjoying the beach with sun beds and umbrellas for 10 euros for two.Guest review byalec - 6.0

Lamezia Terme is not the most exciting place to stay, but prices there are way more affordable than along the coast. It's not that easy to commute to the seaside towns, but doable, you just need quite a lot of timeGuest review byKarolinaPoland - 10.0

This was my second one-day visit to Cosenza, and I still haven't had time to fully explore. However, both the historic part and the modern centre are extensive, so are worth more time. I haven't yet explored beyond the old town for restaurants, but there is a good trattoria with friendly service next to the cathedral. (Calabria Bella)Guest review byDeryk MayerItaly - 10.0

Having only just sold my apartment in Scalea after 20 wonderful years, I cannot praise Scalea enough. Unfortunately Old Father Time is catching up with me and caused the sale. Scalea is a great town in Calabria with the sea, mountains , shopping centre , several supermarkets, and loads of good restaurants in Scalea itself and the surrounding area. I have found the locals friendly and helpful.Guest review byWilliamUnited Kingdom - 10.0
A great place with nice beaches.
A great place with nice beaches. Not overcrowded like Capo Vaticano or Tropea, the sand is white and coarse (sand is actually better in Capo V.). Due to S.D. being located between C.V. and Tropea, it takes only about 20 min by car to get to the beaches and restaurants in the C.V. and Tropea. Sea water is fantastic. I was lucky to spend most of the vacation there.Guest review byMyroslav_MUkraine - 6.0

The season opens May 1st, in april everything is closed. Nobody speaks English and at restaurants you have to decide and eat fast. No warm welcome for tourists, they don't care. We only recomnand restaurant Gambero Rosso at the beach and restaurant In, very welcoming.Guest review byIreneNetherlands
