Came to Rome to explore Ancient Rome and the Renaissance...
Came to Rome to explore Ancient Rome and the Renaissance period. A walking tour of Ancient Rome is highly recommended, but a trip inside the Colosseum should be avoided - there's nothing really to see. Instead, your time could be better spent avoiding the crowds and visiting the Museo Nationale Romano near Termini Station. Here you will find collections of Ancient Rome statuary, mosaics, and frescos that were unearthed around Rome, and reconstructed as they were found in Roman homes/villas. Spend time pondering the culture and people that created these works, in a crowd free museum, rather than being ushered thru the Colosseum like a herd of cattle. In the same way, the Vatican tour was quite a disappointment. Though the Vatican does have an extensive collection of Renaissance Art, you are quickly ushered through the museum with THOUSANDS of other people each day, with no time to reflect on the art - you spend more time trying to keep up with your guide than actually enjoying the art. Fortunately, we had a tour guide recommend we visit the Basilica di Santa Maria dei Popolo (Flamino Metro Stop). Here you will find works of Renaissance art 'In Situ' (Just as they were meant to be displayed) and not in a museum. Look for the light button in each chapel, to illuminate the art - a few chapels require a 1 or 2 Euro coin to illuminate the art. But again, the lack of crowds made for a greater chance to enjoy the art. And finally, take a day trip to Pompeii or Herculaneum. Here you will find the remains of the Ancient Roman civilization better preserved than anywhere in Rome.Guest review byDonaldUnited States - 10.0

Large spacious room with large light filled modern bathroom and great variety of breakfast food. Luana & Petro were so kind and hospitable even walking me to an ATM and the local Pizzeria Galleria a few metres down the road. Home is close to beach. Having a cash driver affiliated to their lovely home is so useful and helpful. Highly recommend staying here each time in RomaGuest review byMemoryAustralia - 6.0

There is no easy walking access to the cruise port or terminals, you will have to book a taxi OR take a bus from the train station to the port (40e). It is confusing and not well detailed by the cruise companies - do your research. Taxi from the train station to an apartment is equally a hassle (30e minimum).Guest review byAlanUnited States - 8.0

Viterbo is a lovely town to visit and it is definitely a trip worth it if you want to escape all the hassle and bustle of Rome. Viterbo has a unique charm and I fell in love with it when I walked the Via Francigena. I stayed in Orchard Bed & Breakafast in Viterbo centre on the Via francigena path as it is available for pilgrims. Viterbo has more than one Spa resort. There are plenty of restaurants and the city is booming with vibrance and cafes. staying 3 nights in Viterbo was definitely worth it. The Park is lovely and the people are friendly. You do not have to worry about theft or other annoying misdemeanors. I would recommend 'Pizza Express'. It is an Indian restaurant, reasonable price and offers a wide range of dishes!!!Guest review byAquilaIreland - 10.0

Gaeta is a lovely beach town that sits half between Rome and Naples. The beach is flat white sand and superb for swimmers of all ages. Crystal clear waters awaits you. Gaeta is split in two. The old town near the Port and the newer town on Serapo Beach. Its a perfect place for a summer holidayGuest review byPaulineAustralia - 10.0

Beyond gorgeous. It’s a dream vacation spot and easily travelled by electric bike to all the beaches. Mostly Italian tourists which made it seem much more chilled out than other beach spots in Italy. Highly recommendGuest review byKristinaUnited States - 8.0

We were in Terracina the last two weeks of June.
We were in Terracina the last two weeks of June. We experienced a local feel with few tourists. the old town is fantastic. We rented electric bikes, which is recommended. Then you can get around easily. A trip up to the temple went like a dream in the heat. We also cycled out to the Cantina Sant'Andrea winery. It took approx. one hour one way. A wonderful trip and a great visit where we tasted many good wines. One should also enter a trip to Ponza. The ferry departs from the city centre. An incredibly cozy island. We chose to rent a boat when we were out there, so that we could take a trip to the outside of the island and swim in the crystal clear water. It was magical! We only took a day trip, but we should have included an overnight stay at Ponza.Guest review byKnut IvarNorway - 10.0

Villa d’Este was amazing and had waterfalls to rival Palace of Versailles. The walk through Villa Gregoriana gardens down the side of the hill to the bottom of the waterfalls was a solid hike and not for the feeble. Definitely take a couple of hours to visit Hadrian’s Villa (aka Villa Adriana) which had amazing historical half crumbling palace and ornamental lake.Guest review bySharee F.Australia - 10.0

Cassino is a town of much historical significance and is very welcoming to visitors. The abbey is a must see, as are the war cemeteries. I recommend a guide, mine was Dr Danila Bracaglia who is so knowledgeable.Guest review byROSEUnited Kingdom
