FAQs about hotels in Sicily
An Island of Intrigue
The largest Italian island, Sicily has long been a place of mystery and intrigue, coveted by civilisations. Its Greek history is most evident at Agrigento whose UNESCO World Heritage-listed Valley of the Temples has amazingly well-preserved Greek temples.
Also important to Greece was Siracusa. Archimedes was born here and there is a theatre and necropolis to explore. However, the most spectacularly located Greek theatre is at Taormina. Set on a hill overlooking the glorious Mediterranean Sea, this theatre points towards Mount Etna smoking away in the distance above Catania. Picturesque Taormina is one of the most popular Sicily resorts and down below there are some wonderful Giardini Naxos hotels on the beach, available on Booking.com.
Another resort boasting some of the best Sicily hotels for families is fabulous Cefalù. Home to a lovely beach, this small town is dramatically located at the foot of a mountain. To the north-west are the Aeolian Islands (also known as the Lipari Islands), volcanic islands with plunging cliffs and secret coves.
Back on the main island, the capital Palermo is a seductive mix of amazing architecture and laidback life. Trapani to the west is known for its salt flats, whereas Messina to the east is where trains drive straight onto the ferry to Reggio Calabria on the Italian mainland.

Beautiful immersion in historical places and street food culinary adventures. Palermo feels safe, however as it became a turist destination, most of the time you will end up being charged high price, in restaurants, for a meal not worth the money (mainly in the most popular areas)Guest review byGIULIAItaly - 4.0

Having planned just an overnight in the city, our group agreed that we would recommend just heading out to explore Sicily and skip Catania altogether; it was not worth all the aggravation getting back and forth from the airport. Very dirty city, the few attractions weren't that exciting, and we enjoyed other areas of the island much more. The buses weren't remotely running on time and we finally just got an Uber to get back to the airport for our rental car.Guest review byKelleyUnited States - 10.0

We stayed in Ortygia, the Old Town part of Syracuse, whcih was a very interesting place, with narrow streets and old buildings. The market was great. We also went to the medieval Jewish ritual baths, the only surviving one in Europe, because it was blocked up during the Spanish Inquisition and only rediscovered in the 1960s. The Archimedes and Da Vinci Museum was amazing - found out a lot more of their discoveries and inventions. And the Archaeological Park was wonderful - needed a couple of hours to go around. Have to catch a taxi to get there - best to go later in the day if it is a hot day.Guest review byHazelAustralia - 10.0

It was a nice change from the quiet hometown we had just come from in Augusta. Taormina was beautiful and also touristy but I didn’t mind it. The restaurants were all beautiful and the staff were pleasant and helpful.Guest review byLisaUnited States - 10.0
Perfect holiday destination.
Perfect holiday destination. Beautiful old town full of winding streets with an abundance of great restaurants. Nice beach with clean clear waters and an old harbour. Day trips to Palermo, Taormina and Mount Etna are a bonus.Guest review byMelUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Great base for day trips (to Erice/Egadi Islands/even Marsala), but the city itself is worth visiting! A very walkable location, especially from where we stayed [SAT Appartamenti Locazioni turistiche brevi-G&P]. We were told to try Busiate so we did in so many different styles haha. We ate these seasoned fried chick pea patties that looked like fried halloumi or tofu that had we not spoken to our hosts we would not have known what we were eating! I left this too late and can't recall everything... Spectacular views as per for Sicily. We happened to be there for the opening of "Radio Mare" this cute cafe that becomes a hi-fi listening bar in the eveniing... super vibey, defo check it out. Every shop and restaurant we stumbled in was worth visiting. It was a lively city that was a good blend of tourist and locals!Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Lots of steep streets and alleyways but didn't get lost! Best to visit the Valley of the Temples early in the day before it gets too hot. Make sure you wear a hat and have plenty of water. Take the time to visit the town, especially the cathedral and greek churchGuest review byMichaelUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Beautiful town, full of life at night.
Beautiful town, full of life at night. Easily walkable, flat streets. Beach is nice and long, with multiple free areas. It's a gorgeous scene with the huge mountains, and lighthouse at the other end. It is definitely more of a touristy feel, as we went in August. Definitely explore up and down the peninsula, as there's excellent beaches and coves to swim at as well!Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Alot of people do not speak english, and everything there including street sign are in ilalian. Had an excustion to the godfather on a hop on hop off bus(green) I had ordered from Get Your Guide and went 2 hours early and the direction they gave us was wrong and couldnt find the place for pick up in mountain. Had no wifi on my phone, even when i paid extra to get itWIFI on my phone. Tried to ask people but on one knew where to go. Traffic was terrible where the address was to pick up. So i ended up not making the excurion, and company is not giving me a refund. Also the rest RISTORANTE SABBIE D' ORO charged us $162.00(euro) for a 1 lobster. They stood over us until we order, couldnt speak english and the menu said 18 euros for a one lobster, thought that was a good price. Pressed us with extra stuff we did not want to order, because we could not understand them. Then we go to pay there system was down and couldnt take no visa or MC. Our bill was $350 eros. We had to go to atm machine and they charged us $75 to take money out of machine. BAD EXPERINCE!!!!!! I would suggest not to go there.Guest review byCindyUnited States - 8.0
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at this place.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at this place. It was a very friendly environment, and unlike the main island, there was no trash littering the area. It was great to see that the main mode of transportation there was by bicycles. The food was also great, but it was a bit overpriced.Guest review byNunoPortugal
