This property was a pleasant surprise as we traveled around Sicily. A very comfortable property within the old town of Trapani that provided valet parking as a bonus. Very welcoming staff, an exceptionally presented room, lovely airy breakfast room all within an interesting complex. We highly recommend this property for anyone contemplating a visit to Trapani.

The staff were excellent, efficient, welcoming and not just those at reception. Requests were dealt with immediately. The view was spectacular. And the bed was huge and really comfortable. The parking was good. The hotel did not exceed my expectations because, having read previous comments, I had expected excellence and that is what we got.

FAQs about hotels in Sicily

An Island of Intrigue

The largest Italian island, Sicily has long been a place of mystery and intrigue, coveted by civilisations. Its Greek history is most evident at Agrigento whose UNESCO World Heritage-listed Valley of the Temples has amazingly well-preserved Greek temples.

Also important to Greece was Siracusa. Archimedes was born here and there is a theatre and necropolis to explore. However, the most spectacularly located Greek theatre is at Taormina. Set on a hill overlooking the glorious Mediterranean Sea, this theatre points towards Mount Etna smoking away in the distance above Catania. Picturesque Taormina is one of the most popular Sicily resorts and down below there are some wonderful Giardini Naxos hotels on the beach, available on Booking.com.

Another resort boasting some of the best Sicily hotels for families is fabulous Cefalù. Home to a lovely beach, this small town is dramatically located at the foot of a mountain. To the north-west are the Aeolian Islands (also known as the Lipari Islands), volcanic islands with plunging cliffs and secret coves.

Back on the main island, the capital Palermo is a seductive mix of amazing architecture and laidback life. Trapani to the west is known for its salt flats, whereas Messina to the east is where trains drive straight onto the ferry to Reggio Calabria on the Italian mainland.

Palermo is an amazing city, full of life, history, and unforgettable charm. Its mix of cultures, stunning architecture, and vibrant neighborhoods make exploring a joy. The food is absolutely delicious - from street-food classics to incredible restaurants, and the people are warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind. A place where I will return for sure.

Catania is the capital of "Dark" baroque immersed in history with a plethora of churches and historical palazzi. The coffee and sweet pastries are second to none. Try a raviola with sweet ricotta baked or fried and your palate will never be the same. Due to over fishing and global warming the variety of the fish displayed at the historical fish market has unfortunately noticeably declined. The administration should consider going the full mile and plan an underground/overground frequent connection from the airport to the city centre (sesticoro metro).

My wife and I loved Syracuse for its history, architecture, variety of restaurants and fresh food. The locals are friendly and there is much to see and do. Syracuse is a great location for day trips to neighboring towns by train or bus including UNESCO World Heritage sites, Noto, Modica and Ragusa. We ended up staying longer in Syracuse than first planned.

Taormina Giardini railway station lies on the coast.

Taormina Giardini railway station lies on the coast. The town is up the side of the mountain. There are regular buses up to the town centre taking about 15 minutes. Fare 2 euros single or 3 euros return. Taxis charge a standard 20 euros. The route is a winding twisting at time very narrow road with hairpin bends etc. The town centre is partly pedestrianised. Park and Ride is almost essential for out of town motorists

Great location to visit with amazing views over the city and water. I went both up the hill/mountain to an old fort and to the Faro Torre beach which was amazing. The food was great. The city was a lot of hills if you don`t mind the light cardio you are good.

Agrigento is a compact town so getting around is easy.

Agrigento is a compact town so getting around is easy. It's pretty quiet (October) and mainly filled with locals. The Old Town is picturesque. There were still plenty of restaurants open. My primary purpose in going to Agrigento was to see the Valley of the Temples which I would recommend as it a unique site and worth a visit. The local buses are inexpensive and can get you around. Taxis for the rest. I did speak with folk who raved about La Scala dei Turchi (Turkish Steps). Given another day I would have definitely visited as it is reminiscent of the salt cliffs/steps in Turkey. Apparently the other beaches near Agrigento are also good. I'm not a beach person though I do like the coast. To sum up Agrigento is worth a day preferably two if going around Sicily or longer if you're a beach lover. There are an abundance of places to eat

The place is nice and outskirts like Modica and Scili and Ragusa Ibla. Beware the public transportation never on time and can even let you stranded same as what happened to me waiting to go to Syracuse never turned up . Destinations on buses incorrectly shown and assistance is very poor. Besides trains didn't operate and none of the operators Omio or Trainline told us anything and finished up paying for non existent tickes supposed to be substituted by buses that are there late or never turn up like my case to Syracuse.

As parking is difficult in these narrow streeted Roman villages, it's better to find a pay as you go carpark and walk easily around the town, discovering everything to offer, which is a lot in Noto, Beautiful churches, Baroque style buildings, piazzas with nice cafes and quaint parks to sit and ponder, what to do next.
