FAQs about hotels in Sicily
An Island of Intrigue
The largest Italian island, Sicily has long been a place of mystery and intrigue, coveted by civilisations. Its Greek history is most evident at Agrigento whose UNESCO World Heritage-listed Valley of the Temples has amazingly well-preserved Greek temples.
Also important to Greece was Siracusa. Archimedes was born here and there is a theatre and necropolis to explore. However, the most spectacularly located Greek theatre is at Taormina. Set on a hill overlooking the glorious Mediterranean Sea, this theatre points towards Mount Etna smoking away in the distance above Catania. Picturesque Taormina is one of the most popular Sicily resorts and down below there are some wonderful Giardini Naxos hotels on the beach, available on Booking.com.
Another resort boasting some of the best Sicily hotels for families is fabulous Cefalù. Home to a lovely beach, this small town is dramatically located at the foot of a mountain. To the north-west are the Aeolian Islands (also known as the Lipari Islands), volcanic islands with plunging cliffs and secret coves.
Back on the main island, the capital Palermo is a seductive mix of amazing architecture and laidback life. Trapani to the west is known for its salt flats, whereas Messina to the east is where trains drive straight onto the ferry to Reggio Calabria on the Italian mainland.

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very good - What previous guests thought, 116 reviewsThis is my second time at this resort. It is so peaceful, surrounded by trees. Beach is amazingly beautiful. Pools- you are spoilt for choice. The animation team is great!!!We had a soft spot for Tommaso, he was so humble and kind and funny ...but truly all of them were great 😁 The staff at the pool bar were always gentle and professional too. Perfect place if you want to relax, especially with kids. Kids clubs are amazing, however kids need to know Italian, as most of the team are Italian speaking only.Guest review byPRISCILLAMalta
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 7.5Good - What previous guests thought, 723 reviewsReturning to Città del Mare after 30 years was pure joy, this time as a mother of four. The rooms are spacious and well equipped, with stunning sea views. The resort is huge, full of beautiful gardens and greenery. Our kids absolutely loved the famous toboggan into the sea, and the pools kept everyone happy. The animation team made sure there were fun, varied programs for all ages. A perfect family holiday - we all enjoyed every moment!Guest review byTimeaHungary
- From US$140.74 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.2Very good - What previous guests thought, 720 reviewsDon’t repeat our mistake 😀 The hotel has an elevator to get to the hotel. We walked 700 meters in the heat. I liked the place, interior, pool, beach and breakfast. Also, you should add 5 euros per night to get access to the pool and beach for two hours with sun-beds and umbrella. We didn’t have our towels, but you can leave a deposit of 10 euros and they will provide it for you. You will get the money back after you check out.Guest review byLanaGeorgia
- From US$169.02 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.7Good - What previous guests thought, 771 reviewsEverything was perfect! The room had a wonderful view. We really enjoyed the pool and the sea — the access to the water is amazing and the view is stunning. The staff are super friendly and attentive. Breakfast was good. The extra activities like kayaking and stand-up paddle are paid separately, but the prices are fair and totally worth it. We’ll definitely be coming back!Guest review byBarbaraBrazil

It was easy to get a taxi after checking out, and although it's about 30 minutes away from town on foot the walk is very scenic and flies by. I booked the hotel for a great deal during off-season and still had a great time.Guest review byMadeleineFrance

Great number of historical sites of various eras, many nice parks and horticultural places, street traffic is classical Sicily style (😄), however famous street food district is not to my taste (too messy, dirty, dubious freshness..)Guest review byAlbinaSlovenia - 4.0
The city centre was interesting and rich of history.
The city centre was interesting and rich of history. The beaches and services there were poor. The streets were narrow with many neglected buildings. The traffic presents many hazards due to aggressive and bullying motorcycle and scooters riders. Try not to drive or ride in Catania traffic. Catania all in all is not inviting place for tourists.Guest review byTomAustralia - 10.0
Ortiga was beautiful.
Ortiga was beautiful. Definately recommend a walking tour of the area. Loads of places to eat and/or have cocktails. We especially enjoyed Moon - a vegan restaurant. (And we are not vegan or vegetarian usually). Also take a guided tour of the Archaelogical Park to get the most from it. We had a car so had to pay 15 Euros a night to park outside Ortiga but parking was close by. 2 days is enough time to see. We used the 3rd day to drive to a canyon with natural pools and then visit a nearby sandy beach.Guest review byMiriamUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Taormina is one of the most beautiful places we have stayed...
Taormina is one of the most beautiful places we have stayed at. The town is clean, safe and historic. There are lots of bars, restaurants, shops and cafes. The beaches are small but lovely. The water is crystal clear at Isola Bella and we spent ages swimming in there. There is a walk up lots of steps to the church and then on to the castle which we really enjoyed. Views on route were stunning. We would also recommend visiting the amphitheatre and go early when it is quieter. The trip to Etna nord was well worth it but take a jumper as cold up there. The Godfather tour is also lovely even if you have never watched the film. The two villages you visit are very old and beautiful. The views again are incredible. We walked most of the time as we were close to the town. The walk down to the beach was lovely and only took 25 minutes. There's a sweet little cafe on route if you need a rest. The sunbeds and parasols are expensive. 50 to 60 euros for 2 beds and umbrella. We sat on towels on public beach.Guest review byPaulUnited Kingdom - 10.0

A charming city with great restaurants and sights. It was just very crowded in August. We had the best meal at 22 Cucina Isolana recommended by our hotel. for a less crowded beach area, we walked to the other end of the beach and spent a day at Lido EoloGuest review byNataliaUnited States - 10.0

Great base for day trips (to Erice/Egadi Islands/even Marsala), but the city itself is worth visiting! A very walkable location, especially from where we stayed [SAT Appartamenti Locazioni turistiche brevi-G&P]. We were told to try Busiate so we did in so many different styles haha. We ate these seasoned fried chick pea patties that looked like fried halloumi or tofu that had we not spoken to our hosts we would not have known what we were eating! I left this too late and can't recall everything... Spectacular views as per for Sicily. We happened to be there for the opening of "Radio Mare" this cute cafe that becomes a hi-fi listening bar in the eveniing... super vibey, defo check it out. Every shop and restaurant we stumbled in was worth visiting. It was a lively city that was a good blend of tourist and locals!Guest review byAnonymous - 8.0
Indications for people who driving there are poor, I was...
Indications for people who driving there are poor, I was lost, I pass in front the entrance without realizing it, poor indicators. I stop and I find another car lost too. The car parking too expensive, the entrance tickets expensive, I went really early before there were too many people, I was able to take selfies for the more important monuments without any wait line. You must be ready with plenty of water, if you are going in summer time because its a really long walk under very strong summer lights. I guess you must see it at least once on your life, like everything relevant from our pass times. Obviously I am a simply tourist without knowledge about architecture. For those that understand I am sure must be fascinating.Guest review byencarniUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Beautiful town, full of life at night.
Beautiful town, full of life at night. Easily walkable, flat streets. Beach is nice and long, with multiple free areas. It's a gorgeous scene with the huge mountains, and lighthouse at the other end. It is definitely more of a touristy feel, as we went in August. Definitely explore up and down the peninsula, as there's excellent beaches and coves to swim at as well!Guest review byAnonymous - 8.0
Giardini-Naxos and the surrounding towns are, however,...
Giardini-Naxos and the surrounding towns are, however, unusually dirty, with a lot of litter scattered along the streets. The beach, on the other hand, has wonderfully clean and clear water. People are helpful. Traveling around, take time. The only rush is in traffic. If you travel by rental car, it helps to have a good map reader in the passenger seat and a calm mind. Honking is simply a part of the traffic culture. A motorcyclist may pass you on either the right or the left. Focus on the traffic is the most important thing. When choosing a rental car, you should go for one with medium power. Otherwise, it may not make it up the hills. We had a Toyota Yaris 1500 Petrol Hybrid Automatic. It was ok. An automatic gearbox makes driving easier.Guest review byMarikaEstonia - 8.0
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at this place.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at this place. It was a very friendly environment, and unlike the main island, there was no trash littering the area. It was great to see that the main mode of transportation there was by bicycles. The food was also great, but it was a bit overpriced.Guest review byNunoPortugal
