- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 689 reviewsThe Iwaso clearly was a highlight of our 3-weeks honeymoon in Japan. The staff was very sweet and incredibly helpful. The restaurant makes delicious dishes, with several options for breakfast, and if you stay two nights like we did, don't expect to have twice the same meals! My husband got the best meat of his life (the best wagyu beef he had during the trip), as well as blowfish, and several oyster-based dishes (locally grown oysters, of course). The restaurant staff even adapted to my dietary requirements (vegan) and was able to make very, very delicious dishes with all kinds of seasonal products. Regarding the room! A spacious, very pretty and neat room with view on the Torii. Watching the sunset slowly darken the mountains and the Torii while drinking great tea and sitting on tatamis in the comfortable kimonos lent by the hotel was priceless. Ah yes, and as a tea lover, you actually have great tea in the room (two types, including genmaicha, in leaves in nice tea boxes, not teabags). And what can I say about the location? The park in front of the hotel is full of momiji trees, which become scarlet red in late November. Across the park lies the ropeway to get up the mountain, but you can also take the hiking path like we did, and reach the summit within a bit more than one hour, to get a great view over Hiroshima bay. Last but not least: the hotel is only a few minutes away from the beach, the shrine and the Torii! I'm a morning person, and I woke up naturally at 5:30 and was able to quickly walk to the beach to watch the sunrise behind the Torii and visit the shrine alone at the opening. An incredible moment, I will never forget this.Guest review byCharlotteNetherlands
- From US$503.97 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 1,488 reviewsThis is a real, traditional Japanese resort hotel where you will get the authentic experience in a gorgeous setting. We loved the attentive and luxurious service by the staff, and it was very cool to stay in a traditional Japanese room that gave off Showa-era vibes. The food (dinner and breakfast) was also amazing - but please note that the cuisine will be very seafood-heavy. We were embarrassed that another American guest at an adjacent table complained to staff about this, and said that they should be serving more meat instead of seafood. If you feel similarly, you should probably stay elsewhere rather than be disrespectful and a bad ambassador for your home country.Guest review byJosephUnited States
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 439 reviewsThis is a traditional-style Japanese hotel. Upon entering the room it was set up as a living room. While we were eating dinner, the staff set up the beds. Dinner was a lovely multi-course meal that neither my mom nor I could eat all of. Breakfast was similarly plentiful. I enjoyed soaking in the bath after bathing. The beds were comfortable. The location was away from the touristy area so it was quiet and calm. The staff was quite helpful and friendly. They called the taxi for us in the morning as well as called them back when it did not arrive on time. The staff was equally worried about us missing our ferry and follow-up connections.Guest review byLeeJapan
- From US$634.62 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 366 reviewsThis hotel is directly across from the ferry terminal so it was so convenient with all our luggage. Lovrly clean hotel with a spacious room that even had a massage chair. Beds were super comfy. The stay was really special, with touches like a lounge area near reception for guests to help themselves to unlimited tea, coffee, soft drinks, cake, biscuits and ice cream. Our son was in heaven!! The buffet breakfast was delicious, especially the French toast. The hotel has separate male and female onsen which was a nice way to wind down in the evenings.Guest review byTanyaAustralia
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Superb - What previous guests thought, 1,177 reviewsOur room was spacious and very authentic Japanese while also being very comfortable. The view over the bay was amazing. The dining experience was unforgettable and our dietary requirements (vegetarian) were perfectly catered too. The private bath was also a lovely experience. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, even by Japanese standards. Overall, we were sad that we only booked one night here.Guest review byAnneGermany
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.6Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 626 reviewsMost conviniently located next to the ferry terminal. Teppei and Shinko San cannot be nicer. They helped with our route around the island and treated us to perfection during our stay. The food (dinner & breakfast) was surprising and delicious. Definitely our stay at Yamaichi Bekkan remains a highlight of our trip to Japan.Guest review byAlejandroSpain

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Superb - What previous guests thought, 2,178 reviewsThe most Japanese feeling place we've stayed on the whole trip - even though it was full of western tourists. Nice place to stay on the island and experience the quiet once the daytrippers have headed back to the mainland. The evening curry was a nice surprise.Guest review byPaulNetherlands

It does get busy during the day when lots of tourists come...
It does get busy during the day when lots of tourists come over by ferry for the day however we hired bikes and managed to stay clear of the crowds for the most part. The Island becomes very quite in the evening which is perfect, I would advise that you book a restaurant as lots of the island closes around 5-6pm so anything that is open later gets booked up. We were very lucky to just get the last free table on two occasions. Also the deer wandering around especially in the dusk and evening before al the ferries drop off are enchanting, however they are not like the deer in Nara park and there are lots of signs that remind people not to feed or bother the deer, not everyone follows these rules which is disappointing.Guest review byDonnaUnited Kingdom - 10.0
It was my second trip to Miyajima island.
It was my second trip to Miyajima island. The first time I only travelled their with my wife and we did not stay in any accommodation. I left back on the ferry same day feeling that I had to eventually return. I was able to do that and I loved every moment. It's an island I would consider going back too again and staying over again. The island offers so much. For those that want heritage and history, tick. For those that want a close encounter with a deers, tick. For those who love calm beaches or mountains, tick. For those that want experiences with friendly locals, tick. Those wanting to do shopping, especially souveniours, tick. For those who want physical activity, the walking trails up the mountain are a definite tick. I could go on, but, for so many reasons I love and would highly recommend travel to Miyajima.Guest review byAdamAustralia - 10.0
Miyajima is simply magical!
Miyajima is simply magical! From the moment you step off the ferry, you’re surrounded by stunning natural beauty, peaceful shrines, and the famous floating torii gate—it truly feels like stepping into a sacred, timeless world. One of the most enchanting parts of the island was wandering through the smaller shrines tucked into the forest, where rows of little Buddha statues wear hand-knitted red hats and bibs. There’s something incredibly touching and serene about them—like the whole island is wrapped in quiet reverence. Add in the friendly deer, delicious street food (don’t miss the grilled oysters and momiji manju!), and the breathtaking views from Mount Misen, and Miyajima easily became one of our favorite places in Japan. I didn’t want to leave!Guest review byMichelleNew Zealand
