- From US$384.63 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 235 reviewsWe loved everything. One of the best hotels we've stayed in Japan so far. Reasonable price & excellent service. Loved that all the rooms have hot spring water flowing. On the territory of the hotel they have a lot of activities: free drink bar in the lounge, mini-live concert in the evening, hand and foot hot spring baths, children play room with games, massage, many types on hot spring baths, souvenir shop and even hand-made classes. We didn't have enough time to explore everything. The food is outstanding and they have a lot of options for vegans/ vegetarians, and all the meals that contain allergens are marked. Also, we appreciate the shuttle bus to the hotel, they came to pick up only 2 of us, although we have arrived late. The room was very quiet, spacious and we had a good sleep, didn't want to leave. Will make sure to come again. You can feel that staff in this hotel truly love their job and care about customers.Guest review byKseniiaJapan
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 248 reviewsGreat experience! Very cozy and authentic. Very large room - more than enough space for a family of three. Impeccable staff and facilities! Traditional kaiseki dinner is a must and is delicious. Dinner and breakfast are served in the room. Slept great on the futon! Outdoor onsen with a view of the city is beautiful. Funicular - functional, fun and cute attraction. Transfer to the station upon check-out. Thank you very much for everything! We will definitely come back in old age :) We will age gracefully like this ryokan! The ryokan does not need advertising for Russian-speaking travelers :)Guest review byAleksandr EniseevRussia
- From US$265.72 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.6Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 760 reviewsWe traveled with a toddler and this is no easy feat but the hotel had a designated play room with books, toys galore, coloring materials, stuffed animals and even a ball pit! The onsen was so relaxing after a long day of walking and the views are spectacular. If you enjoy a good breakfast then you’re in luck because the buffet offers not only a good variety but also quality. The shuttle service was really the star, without it this place would be out of the way. I would stay here again!Guest review bySandorUnited States
- From US$334.59 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 519 reviewsThis was a wonderful hotel and I would go back in a flash. It is right on the beach. We were there in February so the pool was closed but the onsen was open. Went there in the morning and last thing in the evening. The rooms are nice and big. Try and get a seaside facing room to enjoy the beach and the rising sun. The staff were friendly. All in all a great experience. Also there is a free shuttle bus to Kawazu town but there is also a train station near the hotel.Guest review byShaneIreland
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 86 reviewsThis is such a special ryokan, right on the river and overall it was a wonderful experience. There are multiple onsens to choose from. The ryokan food took us out of our comfort zone, and we tried Japanese dishes we never would have otherwise. The staff were all very helpful which added to making our stay pleasant. Make sure you arrive right on the check in time to make the most out of your stay or even better - opt to stay two nights! :-)Guest review byKarlienSouth Africa
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.2Very good - What previous guests thought, 149 reviewsWe had a very spacious room with a beautiful ocean view. We especially enjoyed the complimentary beverage service. The staff was very helpful. Food was very good, but did not offer much in variety if staying multiple days. It's a little out of the way, but there is shuttle service available to Toba Station if you wish to venture off and do some sightseeing. Just be sure to leave and return between the shuttle service hours.Guest review byCarole AnnUnited States
- From US$208.57 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very good - What previous guests thought, 307 reviewsSomewhat older property but in a stunning location and well-maintained. One negative, - access to the onsen lacks elevators and requires climbing stairs. The onsen itself is again a little dated but the location and views of the beach more than makes up for this. Our room service was superb - everything one can wish for in a onsen-ryokan experience. There is a free shuttle service to the Shimoda train station.Guest review byTakagakiCanada

Nagoya is a treasure for eating and shopping.
Nagoya is a treasure for eating and shopping. LOTS of great restaurants. There's the science museum, the Toyota museum, and Nagoya Castle. No "authentic" neighborhoods to explore, though there is an ethnic shopping street near Kamimaezu Station. There are lots of traditional Japanese coffee shops "kissaten" to relax in if that's your thing. If you venture away from downtown there are places like Shirotori Gardens or Arimatsu on the historical Tokaido Road which was a center of indigo dyeing. No restaurants though in the 800 m length of the neighborhood.Guest review byBalibari2015United States - 10.0
Takayama is a jewell in the mountains.
Takayama is a jewell in the mountains. Small, walkable, ( around the city or in the mountains ), has great food, friendly people… There are plenty of day trips from Takayama. We could not go to the valley to try onsen ( heavy rains ) and went to the Green hotel instead - the onsen there was, surprisingly, beautiful and relaxing. The train journey from Takayama to Kyoto is spectacular ( sit on the left side ) - amazing views of the mountains and the river.Guest review byMariaSpain - 10.0
Shizuoka is a hidden gem.
Shizuoka is a hidden gem. You can stay here and get to many sightseeing destinations by rail (day trips) and come back to the relaxation of more laidback location. Locals are very pleasant and friendly, not so jaded by the over tourism of Kyoto and Osaka. We speak very limited Japanese, but were welcomed and managed in small local restaurants and Izakayas.Guest review byMarkAustralia - 8.0
Quiet seaside town with no tourists apart from us.
Quiet seaside town with no tourists apart from us. Easy to get to from Osaka. Stayed in a traditional ryokan (tattoo friendly). Spent the day walking along the harbour to the ropeway up to Atami castle which had several different art displays and museums including an adults only one and a great view of the coast. Away from the beach things were pretty steep so a car might have been a sensible optionGuest review byBrigidAustralia - 8.0
Hamamatsu is a small industrial city located about halfway...
Hamamatsu is a small industrial city located about halfway between Kyoto and Tokyo. It has a number of industrial tourism sites - Suzuki Plaza, esp., and music-related sites - Yamaha Innovation Road and the Musical Instrument Museum. There are a number of Jazz- and Classical-music festivals in the fall, and that is a good time to visit. Lake Hamana is beautiful, and there are a number of interesting temples, shrines, and historical sites like the small but beautiful Hamamatsu Castle. Mostly ignored by Western tourists, but easy to get around, it's charm is in one's ability to visit Japan as it is for those who live there.Guest review byJerome - 10.0
Everything about Gotemba is excellent and magical.
Everything about Gotemba is excellent and magical. Gotemba is one of the most significant epicenters for adventure and sightseeing in all of Japan. It is of course an exceptional gateway to hiking and adventuring on Mount Fuji using the Gotemba, Subashiri and Fujinomiya 5th Station traiheads. Hakone-Yumoto onsens/spas and Lake Ashi are also right in the area. Free shuttle buses offer a 20 minute ride straight to the Famous Gotemba Outlets if shopping for 15 hours is what you are in the mood for. Don't forget Odawara Castle just down the way or Fuji-Q and the Fuji Speedway just up the way, to name a few. Gotemba ROCKS! Mount Fuji and the Osunabashiri descending trail are really the #1 world class attraction among many. Furthermore, all the special local people who support all the vast Gotemba opportunities are the best and truly loved.Guest review byBrettUnited States - 10.0
One of Japan's six ancient kiln towns.
One of Japan's six ancient kiln towns. If you are into ceramics it's a brilliant place to visit. If you're not, it's a lovely, relaxed town with nice walks and good places to eat. Very close to Nagoya airport. There is a free shuttle bus into Tokoname or use the station. Home of the lucky waving cat - Maneki Neko!Guest review byCerysUnited Kingdom - 8.0
I travelled from Tokyo to Shin-Fuji via Kodama Shinkansen.
I travelled from Tokyo to Shin-Fuji via Kodama Shinkansen. The fare is ¥5900 one way and travel time is nearly an hour. I stayed at Toyoko Inn which is 150 meters from the Shin Fuji station. There are lots of car rentals in the area but I was not able to get one as they only accept advance booking from their website. It took me 2 hours getting to and from the foot of Mt. Fuji, by bus and a 15 minute walk in the village to reach my destinations. Roads are quite narrow but they are common in Japan. Like most countryside places in Japan, Fuji is relatively clean, rich in nature, and lots of places to explore. My advice if you want to visit Fuji: 1. Travel by Shinkansen going to and from Fuji. 2. Rent a car so you can visit most of the attractions in and around Mt. Fuji. 3. Spend at leat 3-4 days in the area. 4. Bring cash with you always as most establishments are cash based. 5. Download Papago app on your phone so you can translate Japanese images, signs, etc if you're having difficulty understanding the language. That's it and enjoy your trip to Mt. Fuji.Guest review byMauro Jr - 8.0
If you love beach Shimoda is best for you.
If you love beach Shimoda is best for you. You can enjoy the white sand and wide beach line. Sunshine and twilight views from the seashore ate so excellent The sound of waves, the feel of sand, and the sun create a soothing environment, making it a perfect spot for relaxation and stress relief. Restaurant nearby are very few and most of those restaurants closes early and operates only weekends and holidays so you have plan were to eat your meals beforehand.Guest review bymichelynJapan - 10.0

Definitely visit the zoo if you have the opportunity. It’s very interactive with lots of cute animals. The in Granpal Park illumination was also really good! 7/11 and Family Mart have amazing egg sandwiches. The kadowaki tsuribashi suspension bridge and trails are worth the visit as well.Guest review byHeatherUnited States
