It feels as though he manages the entire hotel – he notices every small detail and gives individual attention to each guest. It’s remarkable how he remembers what every guest enjoys, when they come for breakfast, and what they’re interested in. He spends a lot of time engaging with guests, sharing stories about the local history, and answering any questions, which makes everyone feel truly welcomed. The rest of the staff also deserve recommendation. The team at reception was just as amazing – every time we went on an excursion, they walked us to the pier and handed us off to the tour organizer, giving us an added sense of security. Everyone was always smiling and happy to help whenever we needed. The housekeeping team, who took care of the bungalows, did their work quickly, efficiently, and without a single fault. Also the beach is clean, they keep it in perfect condition, the water is cristal clear, because of this constant work. You can forget about Sihanoukville if you're into fancy...
You can forget about Sihanoukville if you're into fancy colonial French architecture. Such an ugly jumble of buildings I don't think I have ever seen. But - it's the people that count and they seem OK. The indoor market is there if you need something. There's loads of banks and ATMs. I went to the beach and stayed approximately 1 minute since I saw complete lack of infrastructure for sunseekers. I stayed at the Don Bosco Hotel School which has a swimming pool in its large compound. Koh Rong Sanloem is a lovely peaceful island. We stayed at Island Center Point which was wonderful. The water is warm, we swam a few times, plus went kayaking. All very safe. There is a small shop in Saracen bay where you can buy essentials, plus there are a few places offering laundry facilities. If you like basic (very basic) peace and quiet, beautiful sunrise and sunset, this is the place for you to relax. Boats do come in regularly a few in the weekday and more at weekends, but they usually go near the restaurant, so not too noisy. Host, Nak, is excellent and will help you with many things eg forward bookings, as remember there is no Wi-Fi. Most people visit Sihanoukville as a stop of point before visiting the Koh Rohg Islands, it’s a different experience as the city is filled with half built hotels, tower blocks ! Friendly helpful happy crowd, hiking in the Djungle, paddeling in the canoe around the island to coral bay go snorkling there, playing beach ball in the evenings, eating healthy tasty food. I hesitate to recommend this island paradise for fear that it will no longer be a paradise and will lose its unique charm, which is also due to the lack of tourists! The white sandy beaches as fine as flour, the crystal clear waters between emerald and turquoise, the lush vegetation, the smiles of the locals and the laughter of the children... everything is wonderful...
