What made our week’s stay at Lagoon Gate Tangalle Resort truly exceptional was how well looked after we were by Lalith and his family. My friend and I were interested in yoga and exploring, and not only did Lalith connect us with everyone to ensure we had the best possible experiences, from yoga and kayaking to whale and turtle watching, but we got to discover the closely connected local community. Rooms were spacious and spotless, our meals were freshly home-cooked, and there was plenty to see in the tropical grounds. Tangalle is a stunning part of Sri Lanka, and we are grateful that we really got to make the most of it.

After reading some reviews I was a bit scared about our stay at Leopard Nest. Fortunately unnecessarily. I think the owner of this hotel took all the comments to heart. 1. Right after we arrived the owner explained us everything, especially how to stay safe in the jungle, it was very valuable. We also received a whats up contact in case of any questions or needs. The contact was great and very fast 2. There were at least 4 people from the staff from early morning till late evening. 3. My internet from Sri Lankan mobile has a perfect signal, although I do not expect it in a jungle. There is wi fi at the reception, but I did not check it. 4. Breakfast and dinner are served, everything was delicious and so much that we could not eat it all. The dinner consisted of four courses appetizer, soup, grill and desserts. It was very nice in the middle of the jungle where only torches illuminated us. 5. There is bottled water in the room, and for dinner, if you want something else to drink, you can order it. 6. Additionally, because you have to go on safari very early in the morning, coffee and tea were waiting for us before we left, and we were given a tourist fridge full of sandwiches, eggs, fruit, cookies and water to take on safari. 7. Although the safari was organized by another company, the owner of the hotel asked us for contact to the driver to make sure everything would be on time. 8. The staff is very friendly, and everyone speaks very good English. 9. The air conditioning in the huts works very well. 10. When choosing this hotel, you have to remember that these are jungle huts and not a 5-star luxury hotel, you are close to nature here and in your room you can meet a small friendly lizard, this is an adventure and you have to be ready for it. 10.

Highly recommended. We stayed in the Villas which are airconditioned and well maintained. All the villas are a few steps to the pool and a few more steps to the ocean. We could hear the ocean from our room. We had a group of 11 family members across 4 rooms and it was a pleasure to stay in this quiet palm tree location (with a few monkeys) leading to a quant beachfront. The rooms were clean, plenty of clean sheets and towels and excellent value. The restaurant pricing was reasonable for a hotel and the neighbouring cafes and bars are good quality. We stayed in Sri Lanka for a total of 10 days in July and it was sunshine every day with hardly any rain. Don't believe the iphone weather app or the blogs. July is great. The sea at this time of year is not suitable for young kids but the hotel pool was an excellent substitution. We used this hotel as a base to go to Yalla, the turtle sanctuary (highly recommended) and exploring villages on Tuk Tuks. The team at the hotel were super responsive on WhatsApp, arranging everything - including our airport transfers.

We highly recommend this beautiful place. It truly feels like home, surrounded by a friendly family and their lovely dogs, peacefully located between the river and the sea. The cabin we booked is small and charming, perfectly adequate for the price. The outdoor seating area on the terrace is inviting. Additionally, there is warm water in the shower and a mosquito net at the bed to sleep safe from insects. They are wonderful people with great values, and staying with them is absolutely worth it. We would have stayed longer if we hadn’t had other plans. Thank you so much for your hospitality!

Despite we visited Anantara Resort in low season everything was perfect. The service was particularity nice, it was very attentive and accurate. We felt very spoiled. Food, considering we are in Srilanka, was delicious. Best breakfast of the country. The territory and the garden are simply stunning, everything is amazingly maintained, the ocean views are for the truly romantics. Gym it’s updated and very spacious. SPA is a 11/10.

Tangalle is a bustling city with everything you could ever...

Tangalle is a bustling city with everything you could ever need, next to the most beautiful beach. The beach at Tangalle has a very relaxed atmosphere, its not crowded with tourists and there’s still a healthy fishing community, which makes it interesting and makes sure the local restaurants have super fresh fish and seafood. This was our second visit and we will be back again. We ate at a tiny restaurant called Leshana right on the road by the beach next to The Golden Pearl Hotel. The family are fishermen and the mother is a superb cook. It’s just a couple of tables in front of their home, but they look after you like friends and it’s just like eating with the family. They will also take you on fishing trips if you want. There’s lots of little places for coffee too. Places where you can try your hand at Sri Lankan cooking. Tangalle is near enough to Yala to go on a safari in the National Park. At night it’s quiet, no loud music or crowded bars. Perfect for a relaxing time.

It should be on everyone’s itinerary! The safari was amazing- go for the all day! And Jami Riverside Hotel is run by a wonderful host couple and the accommodations were comfortable, clean and affordable. They will make all the safari arrangements with the park for you if you wish. We had a wonderful driver -PHN Kasun Sampath.

This place is amazing. We stay with our 3 young kids and the staff were so kind and attentive. All of the small details have been thought of and it’s a wonderful experience in nature. Lovely local Sri Lankan are served for each meal.

A great place to stay and would definitely recommend.

A great place to stay and would definitely recommend. Large comfortable room close to the pool, with restaurant and plenty of cold beer. We were very well looked after and nothing was too much trouble. Anyone looking for a visit to the National Park should consider staying at Tringa and booking the tour with them as they will make sure you have a great experience.

The White House Inn is a fantastic place to stay in Thissamaharama. It’s situated in a calm and natural setting, making it perfect for relaxation. The inn is also very close to the Yala National Park, which is great for those looking to go on safari. The hotel is clean and comfortable, providing a welcoming atmosphere. The spacious lobby area is a nice spot to unwind. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, offering excellent service throughout our stay. One of the highlights was the food. We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner, and the Sri Lankan dishes were absolutely delicious. Overall, we had a wonderful experience at the White House Inn and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area!

Authentic family experience.

Authentic family experience. Two beaches, bird sanctuary and a fishery. Small but beautiful temple. Big rocks for line fishing. Bird watching. Relaxing. You can walk around the village, a couple of little shops. No restaurants as such. I had home cooked food from the main house.

Tissamaharama is a fantastic base for anyone looking to explore the natural beauty and rich culture of southern Sri Lanka. It's perfectly located for Yala National Park safaris, offering easy access to incredible wildlife encounters. Beyond the safaris, the town itself has a calm, local vibe with beautiful lakes and ancient temples to discover. You'll find plenty of local restaurants and shops, making it easy to enjoy authentic Sri Lankan experiences. It's a great spot for both adventure and relaxation, and I highly recommend spending some time here!
