Such a peaceful setting on the edge of the forest. The accommodation is fabulous, spotlessly clean with all the additional items needed for your stay. Complementary water and soft drinks in the mini fridge, replenished every day. The staff are all amazing 👏 super friendly, and obliging. The restaurant is 5 star quality with an extensive menu. The chef and his team produce outstanding meals, highly recommended 👌

Loved my stay here! room was comfortable, spacious, breakfast was plentiful and delicious. loved having a bar/restaurant on site, the owner helped me coordinate tuktuk rides for all my excursions, was super friendly and helpful. location of homestay could not be more ideal!!! pool is beautiful and cleaned daily.

We had a great stay here. This place is brand new so the rooms are clean,bed is comfy and shower is great for a cheap price relative to what you get. They have a pool also, which is critical as sigiriya is very hot and you need to cool down sometimes. Breakfast had everything you need, The staff was very attentive and friendly. The location is good, not that far from the rocks and has restaurants in a walkable distance Wifi signal was a bit slow

Location and accommodation was dreamy. A cabana in the jungle and a swimming pool in addition. Wonderful and nice owner who is very helpful. Dinner and breakfast was another highlight. I can only recommend staying there - it is on top only a 15 minute walk to Sigiriya rock.

This was the perfect place in the quite remote area of Sigiriya. With only 4 rooms, the staff was very attentive. Bernard (owner/manager?) helped us set up a tuk tuk as well as a safari to Minneriya National Park. Room was clean, air conditioning worked well. Pool was a nice touch, and the food at the restaurant was good as well.

This place is not a hotel, it’s home. Sanjaya and Ruan will make you feel like home! This is a beautiful, very well maintained paradise in the middle of nature, with all the comfort, amazing people and great great food. It was by far the best stay in our whole trip in Sri Lanka and one of best ever after visiting 30 countries. People make the place. Make sure you come here because you will not regret it for sure!

A Truly Restorative Wellness Retreat Our second stay at Ayugiri Ayurveda Wellness Resort in Sigiriya again was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were surrounded by the peace, nature, and genuine warmth from the staff. The setting is breathtaking — lush greenery, v tranquil views, and an atmosphere that instantly makes you slow down. Our suite was expansive and tranquil, with a huge, comfortable bed, a spa-like bathroom, and a private plunge pool overlooking the forest canopy. Mornings began with birdsong and soft sunlight filtering through the trees. There’s no rush here — just space to breathe, rest, and rediscover stillness. The Ayurvedic treatments were outstanding. The resident doctor was kind and attentive, and each therapy was tailored to our needs. The therapists were professional, skilled, and genuinely caring — every session left us feeling lighter and completely relaxed. The food was light, fresh, and nourishing, aligned with Ayurvedic principles. It’s not indulgent dining, but every meal felt like part of the wellness journey — balanced, beautiful, and made with care it perfectly complements the wellness philosophy of the resort. A special mention must go to the staff, who were exceptional throughout our stay. They truly go above and beyond — warm, attentive, and respectful, without ever being intrusive. Every detail, from the herbal teas to the evening turn-down service, felt thoughtful and intentional. We were surprised every time with the location of our b/fast and diners. A heartfelt thank you to Lackshan, who was wonderful with our little boy — he played with him, kept him engaged, and made sure he never felt bored. It meant so much to us and made our stay even more special. This is not a place for nightlife or crowds it’s designed for peace, rest, and self-care. If you’re looking for a luxury wellness retreat in Sri Lanka where you can truly unwind and reconnect with yourself, Ayugiri is a gem.

Nimal the property manager and his staff were great during our stay, and overall, we felt very taken care of. When we had trouble getting a tuk tuk via pickme/uber to get around, Nimal would help us get that sorted. No matter how late we got back, they'd always have someone waiting for us in the main concierge area to make sure everything's ok and get our breakfast order. When Nimal learned we were traveling to Ella on the day of checkout, he informed the kitchen staff and prepare a snack (delicious AND amazingly packaged sandwiches and bananas) and water for our travel. We'd stay here again!

The pool was absolutely stunning and kept in pristine condition by the hardworking pool staff. It was a pleasure to swim and relax in such a well-maintained environment. As for the views, they were simply breathtaking and unparalleled. Whether I was in my room or exploring the property, I couldn't help but be in awe of the incredible vistas. The perfect getaway. The Kumbuk Chalet was just amazing, the bathroom needs a little bit of renovation but as long as it is clean it doesn’t really matter. The staff was really nice, they were very helpful when my bag was taken by mistake and investigated immediately, everything turned out well. Restaurant is very good and the surroundings are just so calm and relaxing.

I didn’t come to Sigiriya to explore the town itself, but...

I didn’t come to Sigiriya to explore the town itself, but purely for the iconic Sigiriya Rock—and it was absolutely worth it. The experience was incredible, with stunning views from the top. My friends and I climbed up for sunrise, which I highly recommend as the best time to go. Just be prepared: there are a lot of stairs—some carved directly into the rock, others metal and uneven. We visited in November just after the monsoon, so it was warm and the climb had us sweating buckets. If you plan on taking those perfect social-media photos, bring a spare T-shirt… or do what I did and let AI handle the magic! Although the ascent was tough and left us literally out of breath, the moment we reached the top made it all worth it. The views were truly breathtaking—quite fitting, since the climb already took my breath away.

The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, providing a perfect space to relax after exploring Dambulla. A beautiful place on earth that there are lots of 360 degree view points. But if it rains it will ruin your plans. So make sure you depend on weatherly and visit Matale when it shows many continuous sunny days. Even on cloudy forecasts do not visit as all mointain tops then will be covered and you will not see the sights. when it is humid leaches also will be active and will become a painful experience.

Lions rock is great, we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Lions rock is great, we thoroughly enjoyed it. We stayed for two nights in the end as we got to sigiriya late. This meant we ate dinner one night at the little hut which wass great, climbed the rock, then moved on to the habarana which was also interesting to wander and eat.

We chose not to climb Sigiriya (having just recovered from Adam's Peak!) but instead chose the much shorter Pidurangala which afforded a fabulous view of Sigiriya. Highly recommended. A visit to the Bawa hotel, Heritance Kandalama, is well worth it as an insight into the brilliant architectural mind of Geoffrey Bawa.

Mainly there are 10-12 attractions in Matale. As I just stayed one day which was not sufficient to visit all the places. Among them where I went were also hampered due to the rain at time to time. Generally Matele was quit good tourist destination if it is planned well with couple of days.

The weather is very calm.

The weather is very calm. Recommended time to start climb is 5.45 AM. So worthy to watch the surroundings from top of the Sigiriya. You can learn a lot about Sigiriya. You can get a guide if you want from the entrance.

Dambulla is an excellent base for exploring Kandy, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya. We stayed there for 4 Nights and could cover the heritage sites easily. Dambulla Caves are a must-see and so is Sigiriya (just 16 Kms. away). Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa are around an hours drive but Dambulla is much well-connected and less touristy.
