If you never been to Kalpitiya, it has a sense of being on the outskirts of civilization. Here you stay nestled among the houses of the locals and share the beach with its fishermen. Beside great kite- and windsurfing (and endless beaches of course), there is not a ton of things to do in Kalpitiya. Scuba diving is good, when there is visibility. Dolphin watching is also a possible activity, but quite an expensive one that last a couple of hours. You won’t find any city center with shops, bars and restaurants near, but you can of course visit other resorts and use their facilities. However you should know that you have a very good restaurant on site if you stay at the Sea Sand Resort! This establishment is made up of about 10 small bungalows with a restaurant. The bungalows are quite basic, but very clean and comfortable and represents good value for money. Within about 10 minutes or more on foot, you can reach surf schools and beaches. From my own experience I can promise that you will be very well taken care off if you chose to stay at Sea Sand Resort.

We had a wonderful time here. The room was very comfortable and clean, with a private pool and a beautiful river view. The bed was super cozy and the AC worked perfectly. Great team - special thanks to Mr. Kuma and Mr. Kumara for making our stay unforgettable! We felt very comfortable and taken care of. Very kind and helpful Mr. Kuma told us about Wilpattu, took us on a trip to show us elephants, helped us organize really great safari in National Park and our trip back to Negombo. It was one of a kind experience :) In this place you can really relax, de-stress and be close to nature. I can highly recommend this place as a fantastic mix of great people and beautiful nature.

    We stayed one month in total and we had an amazing stay at Sri Lanka Kite by Margarita ! The kite spot is perfect for beginners to more advanced level. The school is located on the upper part of the lagoon where there are less schools, which meant that some days we were only 5 on the spot. The staff is incredibly nice, we felt really good during our whole stay. There are also three beach boys, Chathu, Sanji and Diane, who are super helpful and are always happy to help you in any situations (rescue, untangle the lines, bring your kite upwind). The owners, Ruben and Eusebi, are very nice, accessible at all time and super flexible ! We changed our plans multiple times and whenever we needed a plan for a driver or an activity they had very good contacts. We also did a kite trip to Vella island where we did our first downwind, best experience ! The food was also amazing. Every night there is buffet, usually a Sri Lankan rice and curry, and sometimes, as the owners are spanish you can find some tortilla or chorizo. The pizzas were also the best in whole Sri Lanka ! We loved our stay and thanks to all the team we could progress a lot. Looking forward to come back !!

    Perfect stay at the Karanukarala Ayurveda resort, especially the Ayurveda treatment was wonderful. In the beginning, the crew told me it was fully booked, but in the end, they managed to schedule it for me. The room was big, and really clean and the beds were very comfortable. I enjoyed my stay there, especially to relax (recommend the yoga and meditation classes).

    Kalpitiya is an enchanting destination.

    Kalpitiya is an enchanting destination. It's the only place in Sri Lanka where you can take kitesurfing lessons and safely practice kitesurfing with expert assistance from seasoned local kitesufers. Although it's generally considered an arid landscape, even in August, one of the driest months in Sri Lanka, it was largely green and without sweltering heat. Probably, the strong wind causes the heat to dissipate. There's a long stretch of fairly clean beach to explore. Many hotels to stay in and many restaurants to dine at. If you take the train from the Colombo fort railway station like me, you can get down at Palaviya station and walk about 100 metres to reach the road leading from Palaviya to Kalpitiya and take a bus from there and then get down at either Kurinjipitiya or Kalpitiya depending on where you plan to visit and/or stay in. Apart from Kitesurfing, you can go sightseeing, see dolphins, bask in the sunshine, take boat tours, cycle and more in Kalpitiya.

    The Manager of the hotel and his staff (including 3 dogs and a cat) are above any praise. If you seek for a well organized place to rest without problems do come to Puetz Travels Beach Resort. Mr. Marcus will make your trip a real holyday. Even wild crocodiles that live in the nearby river dream to move to the magic canals of Puetz Travels Beach Resort. I wish i were among the lucky ones.     Wilpattu is an absolutely stunning place close to the reserve. That tents have everything that you need that is good shower is good. The barbecue in the evening is really nice and the surroundings stunning. The staff is super helpful and will go out of their way to accommodate you. We booked a Safari through the accommodation and the Driver and spotter were excellent !

    Kalpitiya is a very beautiful destination. A place to stay for a few days. There are many places for you to enjoy and visit. But be careful when you find a place to stop. Be more careful with low-cost places. Dinuda Villas is a very beautiful place. Babzy and the team are doing very well.

    The place is magical Mr Omar has a love for nature and transmits this to his guests. The staff Mrs Lakshi and Mr Ikhmar were very helpful and kind. The food superb and even the wine! The grounds of the property are in the forest. The lagoon is beautiful and birdwatcher ‘s paradise. The best walk at the lotus pond with hundreds different species of birds.

    We planed our trip for three days.

    We planed our trip for three days. There are several places to visit in Kalpitiya. We went to Kalpitiya Dutch fort, also Kalpitiya Dutch church. St. Anne's National Shrine is located nearby. It is known as Thalawila Church too. No matter what religion you follow, St. Anne’s Church in Thalawila is one of the most ancient and wonderful of all Christian shrines in Sri Lanka. Our third day was very exiting because we planned a boat ride to Baththalangunduwa island. Baththalangunduwa is an island off the northwestern coast of Sri Lanka, reachable from Kalpitiya. The boat ride from Kalpitiya is roughly 32 kilometers long and takes approximately 3.5 hours. Camping on this island is becoming increasingly popular among local tourists.
