United KingdomAn exceptional family stay, in December 2024, this was a newly built facility. The family run hotel had a homely atmosphere, everyone was super friendly and polite. The owner has put a lot of thought into the layout and details of the whole hotel. The room are expansive, very comfortable and immaculately clean. The private balconies offer great views over the picturesque rice fields and beyond to the lake. The gardens are teaming with birds. The pool is well maintained, and very welcome after a long journey. The food was super fresh and very tasty, home cooked in a very clean open air kitchen. The owner arranged our Yala safari. We had a very enjoyable stay, in hide sight we should have stayed longer.

SwedenI will give this a 10/10 out of how much the owner provided for me. The view outside is amazing, just in front of the lake. So peaceful! So the room was okay. But the best thing for me was that the owner provided me a free tour around the place, watching sunset, crocodiles, bats and owls. He also took me to the atm, supermarket, and picked me up from the bus when arriving. Everything for free. And I can also recommend going with the safari that he is providing. That guide was also amazing, experienced, and affordable.

AustraliaThe owner is a fantastic man, he was very attentive and respectful. He helped organise transport to Yala and then from Yala, as well as our Safari. He got an excellent Safari driver, which is the key to a good Safari experience. The room was lovely, and dinners were brilliant too. The area has a lake nearby and the locals who live nearby are so welcoming and friendly. I wish we had stayed longer.

The breakfast is superb, the most delicious coconut pancakes. We also ordered dinner which was served to us on the veranda, the food was great and so was the service. I recommend this place!

PakistanI liked each and everything about this property. It is so peaceful and quite. It has been established in a huge piece of land, however, keeping in perspective the nature and the guests who seek calmness and peace it only has 8 rooms on the entire property. The rooms and washrooms have been designed and furnished very beautifully and the entire property is aesthetically marvellous. The pool and the bar next to it is a wonderful place to relax and is very well furnished. Both the pools ie the main pool and the kids pool are very well maintained. The dining area is also extremely beautiful. The food at the hotel was very tasteful at the menu had various options. They arranged a live music and special dinner on pool side on the Christmas Eve and it was good fun. The staff at the hotel is extremely good and they take good care of all of your requirements. The management is also extremely helpful and they interact with you frequently to cater to any of your concerns. I played cricket with staff there and had a good relaxing time.

Hong KongThis is set in the most beautiful area! Right near a lagoon with so much wildlife as well as nearby local villages. The owner was so helpful and did everything he could to make our stay the best! His wife cooked a brilliant sri Lankan meal for us, including Buffalo curd for desert, which was delicious. He organized a great safari for us at Yala. He also took us out for a tour for about 2 hours around the local area and showed us local wildlife and other important parts, which was amazing! So pretty! This was a small cost and so worth it! If we had time, we would have stayed longer. Beds comfortable, rooms beautiful, lovely balcony at the front of the property. It's one of our favorite stays!

EVERYTHING! The setting, staff, food, room...I mean EVERYTHING was exceptional. This time my trip to Sri Lanka was quick and involved a lot of movement, but I am so thankful I ended my trip at Rate Wild Coast Tented Lodge. From the moment I entered, I felt like I was in a safari paradise. The staff, waiters, and GM were completely attentive and accommodating. While not the cheapest place I ever stayed, I think it was worth every penny. At first, I was disappointed I didn't have direct beach access as I had booked a pool room (and I thought those were only on the beach), but after settling in for an hour and catching a quick sunbathe I turned around to see a giant elephant on its way to my watering hole...they said it could happen...but I really thought the reality was slim to none...boy was I surprised! Besides all that, all the food and drinks were delicious! And, it cannot be omitted...the coastline! WOW! I have traveled the world and consider myself pretty versed in beautiful coastlines...and I have to say, this is one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL I have ever has the opportunity to sit and enjoy! The gigantic rocks, the angry sea, and the soft soft...even without at elephant visit I would have been so enthralled by Rate Wild Coast Tented Lodge. Thank you!!!

My exhilarating trip to Sri Lanka was an incredible experience that will always remain in my memories. The pristine landscapes and beautiful nature of this country captured my heart. However, what made this trip even more special was our stay at Laya hotel. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and also the place was very comfortable and quiet at night. We happened to be there during Sinhala and Tamil new year holiday, and we decided to stay an extra night to celebrate with them. We participated in their games and festivities, and it was a great new experience. We were even honored as special guests on the second night to stay in their brand new caravan. Special thanks to the hotel general manager (Mr.Wasantha) and his deputy (Mr.Dulaj) for their hospitality.

Location location location- being based in Kataragama it’s away from the ‘normal herd’ of Yala safari locations.When out on safari, we met a small limited amount of safari trucks. Other cheaper companies based near the coast race up into the national park daily when the Yala park gates open leaving you eating dust from all other high speed vehicles and chasing wildlife away from all the human noises / vehicle seen . If this is your once a lifetime Yala safari, spend the money and do it properly. This company is also animal welfare minded

The staff at Cinnamon Wild Yala were incredible at every moment. From the security who helped take you to your room at night, to the friendly waiters and waitresses. Would highly recommend for a two day/ night trip for safari. Early check in for an additional payment helped us with awkward flight times. We got upgraded free of charge which made our stay extra special.

The staff were very friendly. Special mention goes to Shehan from the restaurant, Sandaruwan from the pool supplies, ayurvedic doctors and all the wonderful staff at the reception. The food was amazing. Highly recommend this place to all safari lovers and pilgrimage stop overs.

It should be on everyone’s itinerary! The safari was amazing- go for the all day! And Jami Riverside Hotel is run by a wonderful host couple and the accommodations were comfortable, clean and affordable. They will make all the safari arrangements with the park for you if you wish. We had a wonderful driver -PHN Kasun Sampath.

This place is amazing.
This place is amazing. We stay with our 3 young kids and the staff were so kind and attentive. All of the small details have been thought of and it’s a wonderful experience in nature. Lovely local Sri Lankan are served for each meal.

It is a holy place visited by Buddhists and Hindus alike.
It is a holy place visited by Buddhists and Hindus alike. Some Muslims also visit a mosque located in the sacred area. Buddhist usually visit the Kiri Vehera area first and then come to the Devale premises. There are circular roads to facilitate that sequence. Otherwise, one can walk to the Devale premises and then proceed to the Kiri Vehera premises. There are lot of boutiques selling various items including offerings for Devale. They are located in the town area. After that one has to cross a small bridge over the Menik River to enter the sacred area. Over the years both sides of the river have been re-organized for a better sequential experience.

A great place to stay and would definitely recommend.
A great place to stay and would definitely recommend. Large comfortable room close to the pool, with restaurant and plenty of cold beer.
We were very well looked after and nothing was too much trouble.
Anyone looking for a visit to the National Park should consider staying at Tringa and booking the tour with them as they will make sure you have a great experience.

Weerawila, located in a dry zone of Sri Lanka, is ideal for wildlife safaris and nature experiences. This location is especially convenient during the rainy season, as it often stays dry even when the rest of the country is experiencing thunderstorms. We chose it specifically to avoid heavy rains.

We went for leopard safari & it is in zones 5&6. Safari was excellent & saw one leopard & a bear!
Hotels generally not near any restaurants so confined to your hotel for dining. Would not want more than one or two nights there.

The White House Inn is a fantastic place to stay in Thissamaharama. It’s situated in a calm and natural setting, making it perfect for relaxation. The inn is also very close to the Yala National Park, which is great for those looking to go on safari.
The hotel is clean and comfortable, providing a welcoming atmosphere. The spacious lobby area is a nice spot to unwind. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, offering excellent service throughout our stay.
One of the highlights was the food. We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner, and the Sri Lankan dishes were absolutely delicious. Overall, we had a wonderful experience at the White House Inn and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area!

Tissamaharama is a fantastic base for anyone looking to explore the natural beauty and rich culture of southern Sri Lanka. It's perfectly located for Yala National Park safaris, offering easy access to incredible wildlife encounters. Beyond the safaris, the town itself has a calm, local vibe with beautiful lakes and ancient temples to discover. You'll find plenty of local restaurants and shops, making it easy to enjoy authentic Sri Lankan experiences. It's a great spot for both adventure and relaxation, and I highly recommend spending some time here!

It definitely is an experience worth trying.
It definitely is an experience worth trying. The tree house has all the comforts you need but yet kept on the simple side. Don't expect much and you will get a lot.
Nice food Bbq and big fire lit for you in the evening to give you a chance to relax and talk about your day activities.
It was great to be left alone and the silence of the night. There were times you just felt that we were the only ones there and when you needed something the staff would magically appear

Kataragama itself is a temple town and that’s pretty much it. Other than that it’s a jumping off point for safari in yala and kumana.
One day is more than enough for cultural/religious aspects. The Perahara (pageant) in July is fantastic. Be warned that it may not start till midnight and may need pre booked tickets. Also watch out for pickpockets in crowded areas around this time.
The country side and the rural life as well as the wildlife is fantastic and authentic.
Quite hot and sunny year round but dec to feb is more comfortable.
