We went with family so we had a good experience But don’t go in August it’s too hot and humid and lots of storms . The power went out twice. The mosquitos ate us alive . The food was ok . Ajijic was very nice, especially as it was the off-season. I enjoyed the town. I would have liked it better if there were not so many expats. I wanted more of an opportunity for speaking Spanish, but I kept running into people who could not speak Spanish or did not want to speak Spanish. For Spanish, I had to take a bus to go to Chapala. I was later told that 70% of the population of Ajijic is expats and that Chapala was about 5% expats. (This was told to me by an expat couple and verified by others, including people who were non-English-speaking.) Ajijic was still very nice and I enjoyed walking around it. The main square in the town and the few streets surrounding the hotel were really nice. However, many facilities are not open except on the weekends. Then again, I would have no desire to go there on the weekend because of the crowds. Such a great little town. We came in the off season so it wasn't too crowded. There are many bars and restaurants that have their own style and personality. The sunsets were amazing and the people were very friendly. It's easy to get around town but I would recommend renting a golf cart or car because of the humidity. Beautiful City with a small Pueblo feel. Everything was within a small walk or quick taxi ride. The ease of the Oxxo (Like 7-11) and its hours of operation left me never needing anything. The Cities Centro and it’s Mercadito was a true delight, filled with eating options and small stores selling everything from small knickknacks to fresh fruits and vegetables. It is a beautiful in and around Guadalajara. The tours were great but I recommend taking the tour to Tequila the day before or two days before you leave and wait to buy your “jarito” on the last stop. It’s a great way to end a vacation. Excellent restaurants, such as Happy Lobster, and Barracuda, which was a great beachside restaurant with the most amazing staff. Convenient markets, friendly people, great tattoo parlour (Endless Ink). I used Uber to get around, which was economical and reliable.
