Johor: Malaysia's Gateway State

Johor, a Malaysian state and continental Asia’s southernmost point, is often referred to as the southern gateway to its more illustrious powerhouse across the Johor Strait – economic giant Singapore. Used mainly as a transit point, there are some hidden gems waiting to be discovered.

Malaysia’s 2nd largest city is vibrant Johor Bahru, also known as JB. Apart from being a processing point for the large numbers of tourists via the Johor-Singapore Causeway, it is also an important industrial and commercial centre and enjoys a lively nightlife scene.

The story gets far more interesting in places like the Endau Rompin National Park where jungle trekking is popular. Indigenous tribes, endangered species and some of Malaysia’s most wonderful waterfalls are part of one of the world’s oldest rainforest regions.

If you are tired of overcrowded beach resorts fretting over the international tourist dollar, then quiet and charming Desaru offers some relief on the east coast of Johor state. There are no roads on the island and the whole area is a marine park with spectacular diving.

    Everything was great. Secured place. Ample parking slots and of course, free parking. Room was spacious and clean as in the photos. Food were yummy, delicious and alot of choices. Pool was family friendly with young kids and SPA were all available. Front desk staff were friendly and fast for checking-in and check-out. A good place to relax with family. It’s a must to try, see and share. I can recommend to my relatives and friends.

    Excellent breakfast with lots of varieties. Very impressed with the staff and cleanliness of the hotel. The staff are very polite, helpful and honest. My wife left some valuables in the room and the housekeeping and management kept it for safekeeping until it was collected by my brother in law. We arrived early morning on 1st day tired and exhausted after 13 hours flight but the staff was kind enough to let us check in early at 12.

    Am excellent variety of accommodations to choose from. The Ombak Festival is awesome here and we came exclusively for it... Easy to get around because we had a chauffeur driven car from the resort. Amd the water theme park was an excellent bonus after the fabulous concerts..

    I frequently travel to Skudai to drop my sister off at UTM, and during our visits, we always enjoy brunch at Chamek Kopitiam, where the food is truly exceptional. You should definitely try their dishes – everything tastes amazing! If you're a shopaholic, I highly recommend spending a couple of days at Paradigm Mall, as it offers a wide range of stores to explore.

    Basic not much to do there and the weather was super hot. My impression of Kulai is famous for the thunder tea rice but to my disappointment I had tried 4 different stall / shop/ cafe/ restaurant. The tea soup was super salty is was like drinking seawater.

I generally used to eat at restaurant OSMAN OR restaurant HABIB. Try to have some Food/Beverage at Restoran BANAFEE Seri Alam near TODAY's mall. One can buy fresh fruits and other necessary shopping at TODAY's mall nearby. Pharmacy shops are available nearby in walking distance, which is very good. Possible for the travellers to connect to other cities in Malaysia from TBPG (Terminal Bas Pasir Gudang).
