- From US$114.63 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 615 reviewsThis campsite features a very modern common building with perfectly clean toilets and showers and a spacious fully equipped guest kitchen with everything you need. The cottage was amazing: beautiful, spacious, well equipped and extremly cozy. It has place for up to three people which gives it great value for the price. It was already preheated for me on arrival. The campsite is located a bit outside the city in a quiet forest close to the river. However the city (bus terminal, supermarket, attractions) is still easily reachable in a 1 km walk. The site also offers some activities and rental of outdoor equipment. The staff is especially friendly and helpful. I could only stay here for one night even though I originally booked two because I was stuck at Nordkapp the day before. I only had to pay for one night at the end which was actually incredibly nice of the staff! I will definitely come back here some day!Guest review byJanekGermany
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 582 reviewsAll the staff (reception, dinner and breakfast, kind crab safari, husky handlers, drivers) I interacted with were super nice and helpful. I stayed one night at the snow hotel and one night at a cabin. For the snow hotel they provide you with a tour where everything is explained. You receive warm woolen socks, a balaclava, a warm sleeping bag with a liner. I enjoyed my night in the snow. For me it was a once in a lifetime experience and I am glad I got to do it here. My stay at the cabin was perfect. It is a well tought out space. Ideal for watching the Northern Lights all snuggled up. There are some nice walks you can do up the mountain near the reception and also along the river. It was a great place to relax and enjoy my last two days in Norway. And the puppies and reindeer are the cutest!Guest review byCaroleLuxembourg
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.4Very good - What previous guests thought, 563 reviewsI was looking for a room in Alta and this turned out as the best option. The location is a bit remote, but it's worth every kilometer once you get there. They have several different types of cabins, the surrounding is well kept. I stayed at one of the cabins, the room and the bathrooms were spacious, the beds very comfortable. If you arrive at dinner time, you may get a meal there, too (for an extra charge, of course). The breakfast was rich and tasty.Guest review byAlbinSlovenia

We chose Alta, the City of Northern Lights, to "Hunt the Aurora Borealis". We were NOT disappointed. It was a magical experience. Lots of beautiful northern lights shows. We did a number of activities: night time horse drawn sleigh ride and dinner; king crab fishing experience; tour of the Ice Hotel at Sorrisniva; dog sled ride at Holmen Husky. We stayed at a canvas dome in GLOD, with the most amazing guide to see the Northern Lights. We stayed in a forest suite at Holmen Husky. The place was incredible and the way they treat the dogs will completely change your thoughts on the sport of dog sledding. They were the sweetest and happiest dogs I've ever seen. We stayed at Flatmoen Natur Lodge, which is a family owned and ran farm. Each lodge has their own private, outdoor jacuzzi so you can sit outside while the snow is falling or hope to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.Guest review bycmayes80United States - 10.0
Small town with great history.
Small town with great history. It revolves around tourist, so thankful that the museum was open on Sunday. As I did not join tours, I find 3 days was more than enough. The tour agency for Russian border stated having tours at in the afternoons however did not approve my request and insist that I book a private tour or join the morning tour (together with the tourists from the cruises). I did not want as my mother just arrived from the cruise after 7 days, and she wants to rest first. I ended up booking a taxi and the price is the same. The taxi driver brought us to both Russian borders (old and new), let us spend time and help us take pictures. The price was standard (NOK1,600) for an hour. What is lacking is probably a tour guide to explain things. But that is OK. Kirkenes has a great view but lack good viewing points (well, I did not find any...). I found a randomly shared viewing point up a hill which was good but not the best. Must visits - Andersgrotta (Daily, 12.30pm tour, NOK300 per person), Borderland Museum, Russian Border, and see the pictures in town by Ellisif Wessel.Guest review byCY OngMalaysia - 10.0
Can't really find any negatives for this place.
Can't really find any negatives for this place. The locals are very friendly, the streets are clean, the scenery is stunning and best of all its only about 35 minutes drive to Norkapp. If you are visiting we would 100% recommend booking a trip to Norkapp. Its a fascinating place...the top of Europe!!. We flew in, stayed 3 nights then departed on a fjord cruise. Well worth every penny. We decided to take a walk one morning, its obviously very hilly but not too taxing. Its about 5 miles to completely encircle the town though that did include a few detours for the sake of photos. There is a restaurant close to the Norkapp museum called The Corner. The food, welcome and service were second to none. Totally recommend it to any visitors. Well that's my opinion of Honningsvag, visit yourself and see what you think.Guest review byJimmy & JulieUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Definitely take the opportunity to go to the end of the island and explore the old WWII bunkers. Whale sightings were plentiful from the shore. Also, rent a car and take the drive to Hamningberg. Short 45 drive to the town, but stunning landscapes and views. You wont be disappointed!Guest review bySamuelUnited States - 10.0

This was our accommodation for a work related trip to the area. While the work aspect was riddled with challenges due to the remoteness of the location, the owners quickly became our friends and shared local and unique experiences that would not have been possible otherwise, always willing to go out of their way to help, friendly and welcoming, all around lovely.Guest review byMichael - 10.0
Lovely cute place which is not too commercial.
Lovely cute place which is not too commercial. Great place to do a northern light run, Go for a smaller tour size of 7-8 ppl instead of 50 sized. First its very safe even if you are going solo and also you have a more personal discussion with the group and also much more personalized attention to see the stars and the northern lights.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

There is more to see than you think, particularly if you are interested in history. We had a day to see the sites before taking the Hurtigruten Coastal Express to Bergen. We could have used a second day, or at least another half day. You need to be fit and a good walker because it's easier than using the local public transport. Things really worth seeing are the Borderland Museum, Savio Museum, Andersgrotta and Liberation Monument, the Russian Consult General Building and the protest opposite, statues, monuments and the Snowhotel. We had a nice meal at Surf and Turf.Guest review byAnnAustralia - 6.0

Everyone seems to be profiting from the proximity to Nordkapp, which lowers the overall experience of an otherwise nice town at the edge of Europe. Many cruise ships that dock in the port release heaps of tourists into the town every day, which makes it feel more like a centre of some large city, not a town of 2500 inhabitants.Guest review byPatrikSlovakia - 10.0
The farthest Eastern place in Norway.
The farthest Eastern place in Norway. I visited it in Winter, few days after the first sunrise this year. Sunrises over Barents see are magnificent! Lots of places to wander nearby. Fantastic opens paces. Calm and silent. The road to Vardo is epic. On the coast, there is a XVII Century Witch Hunt Memorial which is worthy to see. As the town is not too big, it is a great place to hunt for Northern Lights too!Guest review byWojciech - 8.0

I came for the museums and some quiet relaxation, and got plenty of that! Lovely town with good food and lovely people. The weather in June was grand... nice during the day, cooler at night. A fan was all I needed to be cool enough to sleep. The local taxi company got me around town with ease, though their is a bus I never tried out. I sadly do not speak any Norwegian, and I was able to get around with ease.Guest review byJoe the SharkUnited States
