The motel/lodge is very well situated, directly on the road to Turoa, and close to nice bars and restaurants. We had a late check in (11:30pm), and the team was ver accomodating, leaving the room open with keys inside, and clear instructions to go to the room. We had a appartment with 2 rooms (6 beds in total). We were positively surprised by the quality of the place, with good beds (a bit too soft for one of them, but no complains for the others), and quite a lot of space. The kitchen was well equiped too. We only stayed 2 nights, but it would be a great place for a week.

A friendly welcome. Our unit was beautifully prepared and had everything we needed. The teapot was a nice touch and a nice surprise, beds were comfortable and plenty of bedding if needed. The bathroom was impressive. The motel is so central to everything. Near the plaza and the square, eateries nearby (Burger King is across the road, and there is a long-established Thai restaurant and pub the other side of the road) and if you need public transport there's a bus stop close by.

I only the best was great bridge set up for bridge venues and the convention centres and the number of people were so big that the convention centre couldn't hold so they opened the bridge club as well so both venues were so full and that's where I went to play cards and both places they were great had no time to go other places as we walk to our venues and had great restaurants to have dinner

Spent 8 nights at four Okahune motel/apartments in early...

Spent 8 nights at four Okahune motel/apartments in early October. The town centre and the railway station front are the major leisure venues. I have taken a lot of photo/video streams in town and along the road to Turoa ski field. Accommodation and F&B services are above average, and many selections. Many local activities(rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking and most importantly, snow sports) are available, and the tourist info centre is well located, and the staff there are helpful and welcoming. picturesque town with snowy mountain, stream and falls to visit.

We were quite surprised that the town was looking so...

We were quite surprised that the town was looking so deserted compared to just couple of years ago when we last visited. Many of the shops on the main street (and just about all the ones on the side streets) were unoccupied and boarded up. Having only stayed one night, we didn't have much time to do more than walk up and down the main street to see the shops, but the town has quite a run down feel to it. The activities run by the Forgotten World Motel were mostly not operating at this time of the year (September). If you plan to do the adventure activities offered by the Motel, then visit from mid-October onwards when they are fully operating.

Friendly, with lots of eating places, so varied food available. Lots of play areas for kids. At Cobb & Co, I booked a group booking for 25 guests on Sunday afternoon and was very pleased with everything there. The food was good as well as the friendly staff.

Unfortunately the unit we stayed in was infested with ants...

Unfortunately the unit we stayed in was infested with ants which were in the bathroom, kitchen and bedroom. We awoke to find them in our beds and crawling all over us. Most unpleasant experience. I advised the manager but he didn't really apologise and I believe he was aware of the situation. His response was that he would need to get a pest controller in. I felt he didn't believe us, but we showed the cleaners and they were shockewd.

Feilding is a gorgeous country town.

Feilding is a gorgeous country town. Has a lot going for it. Centrally located. Has a great eatery called Rosebowl Bakery, amazing selection of eats, nice spacious cafe area and great staff. Reasonable prices too.

The empty Chateau is a shame but we hope that will be sorted...

The empty Chateau is a shame but we hope that will be sorted soon. The neglected buildings in the village on both sides of Bruce Road is not a good look. Hopefully they will be restored and have tenants soon. We understand Covid and the uncertainly around the sale of the ski field had a big influence but we hope that it would be fixed soon

My baby and I stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed everything...

My baby and I stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed everything about Waiouru. We were at the Oasis motel which is across the road from the Z gas station and next to a Diner,bakery, bar & bottle store which breaks off from the motel but still far away from the rooms. A bit secluded but love how everything’s so close and the nice cold weather.
