Having stayed here on the 4/11/24, I was pleasantly reminded of a time when everyone whom greeted you, greeted you the way we were treated. With genuine, sincere, willingness. The rooms are immaculate. The view from the top floor....mesmerizing. The service....unparalleled and unrivaled. This is such a pleasant, relaxing, homely place to stay. Rarely have I felt the need to commend anyone before, but this place is quite literally stunning. I will DEFINITELY be returning to THIS astounding establishment. Peter is without a doubt one of the most helpful, sincere, genuine, typically "Kiwi" hosts I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Well done sir.

This is such a lovely place to stay. Our cabin was clean, fresh and welcoming. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. Homemade biscuits were such a nice touch in our room. We had a view of the lake, and it was walking distance to town where there are plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants. I would highly recommend staying here.

Clean and tidy.
Had everything we needed.
Our room was lovely and warm.
Beds were comfy.
Kids loved the hot outdoor pool although the private spa pools weren’t that warm compared to the swimming pool otherwise we will definitely be back to stay again in the near future.

Taupo is a beautiful location and a great place to spend a few days. There are lots of things for visitors to do, or you can just chill out at the lakeshore and soak up the beautifully tranquil scenery. It really is my favourite place in the North Island and I always make a point of spending some time there whenever I am in New Zealand.

Spent 8 nights at four Okahune motel/apartments in early October. The town centre and the railway station front are the major leisure venues. I have taken a lot of photo/video streams in town and along the road to Turoa ski field. Accommodation and F&B services are above average, and many selections. Many local activities(rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking and most importantly, snow sports) are available, and the tourist info centre is well located, and the staff there are helpful and welcoming. picturesque town with snowy mountain, stream and falls to visit.

We were quite surprised that the town was looking so deserted compared to just couple of years ago when we last visited. Many of the shops on the main street (and just about all the ones on the side streets) were unoccupied and boarded up.
Having only stayed one night, we didn't have much time to do more than walk up and down the main street to see the shops, but the town has quite a run down feel to it.
The activities run by the Forgotten World Motel were mostly not operating at this time of the year (September). If you plan to do the adventure activities offered by the Motel, then visit from mid-October onwards when they are fully operating.

Unfortunately the unit we stayed in was infested with ants which were in the bathroom, kitchen and bedroom. We awoke to find them in our beds and crawling all over us. Most unpleasant experience. I advised the manager but he didn't really apologise and I believe he was aware of the situation. His response was that he would need to get a pest controller in. I felt he didn't believe us, but we showed the cleaners and they were shockewd.

The empty Chateau is a shame but we hope that will be sorted soon. The neglected buildings in the village on both sides of Bruce Road is not a good look. Hopefully they will be restored and have tenants soon. We understand Covid and the uncertainly around the sale of the ski field had a big influence but we hope that it would be fixed soon

My baby and I stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed everything about Waiouru. We were at the Oasis motel which is across the road from the Z gas station and next to a Diner,bakery, bar & bottle store which breaks off from the motel but still far away from the rooms. A bit secluded but love how everything’s so close and the nice cold weather.

The location is lovely, the clean room very tastefully done with an excellent bathroom. Self serve breakfast is provided in the room so no need to pack up and then drive to get food. The check out time of 11am allows for a relaxing morning especially after a long drive like we had.
Kinloch is nearby on the lakeside with a general store. Worth a walk and a swim. The quiet side of Lake Taupo.

The lake is beautiful, especially the sunsets.
The lake is beautiful, especially the sunsets. Lots of coffee shops and restaurants to choose from. Easy to get to Huka Falls and craters of the Moon. It was great to see snow atop one of the peaks at Tongarirro N.P. from the Huka Falls lookout.
