If you’re a traveler looking for a real, authentic Omani experience—this is the place for you! It feels more like a traditional rest house than a commercial hotel, and that’s exactly what makes it unique and special. The atmosphere is peaceful and homey. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and simple in the best way. You’ll wake up to quiet surroundings, yet you’re just minutes away from local markets, services, and the mountain. Perfect for those who want to explore the real Oman, away from crowded tourist spots and luxury hotel chains. This place has everything you need for a relaxing stay: space to unwind, privacy, and a true feeling of being welcomed like family. Honestly, if you value authentic travel over luxury brands, you’ll enjoy this place even more than any 5-star hotel. Highly recommended for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and anyone wanting to experience the real Oman!

Located in a small mountain village, it is recommended for active hikers. There is a well-maintained nature trail, with a presentation of local farming, a walk to a lookout or a... - Stunning panorama once you get up to the village. (4x4 off-road vehicle required, or you can take a local lift from the end of the tarmac road) - A friendly and cooperative welcome. Dinner and breakfast are all-you-can-eat buffet, varied and delicious. More than you would expect in a small local village. - In the evening we enjoyed the view and dinner from a very cosy heated terrace. - The room was fair, clean and tidy. In keeping with local tradition, there is no glazing in the windows, but there are blackout blinds and electric heating.

There are only a few things to see - a small souq - market and the fort. More than one or two days will be too much. I don't want to insult the local people! There is nice Halwa in NIZWA to try, and good restaurants, but the service is far worse than it should be.

We stayed in Old Al Hamra at the Al Bait Aljabal Hospitality Inn which was wonderful. Beautifully artistically decorated. The very helpful owner found a local guide for us Abdul Rahman Alabri to take us in his 4x4 to Jebel Shams to do the Balcony Walk. AbdulRachman was truly excellent with a lovely kind personality. Very informative. I would never have managed the Balcony Walk without him as, although a hill walker, I can experience a fear of heights. The Balcony Walk has big drops on it though you are never truly exposed. Being with a local guy who knew what he was doing gave me confidence. His cousin owns a lovely cafe Saef in amongst the palm trees in old Al Hamra. You really are away from the commercial side of tourism there. Al Hamra can act as a base for many other places in the mountains. Easy to get to Misfah for example

Jabal Al Khdar is a peaceful, mountainous township with all...

Jabal Al Khdar is a peaceful, mountainous township with all necessary facilities. Please note that a 4x4 vehicle is mandatory—vehicles are checked at the checkpoint. If you arrive in a sedan, you’ll need to leave it below and either take a taxi or rent a 4x4 to reach the top. Ensure your car or SUV is fully maintained, especially the brakes and tires. It’s advisable to book your stay in advance. You can choose to cook in your accommodation or dine at one of the many restaurants available at the top. The area feels like another world—calm, serene, and refreshing. You can breathe fresh air and escape mental stress. The best time to visit is from December to July. It is advisable to use a 4WD vehicle to get to this point but skilled drivers may still be able to get there with a 2WD vehicle. The community in the area are peaceful, modest, and straight forward hence as the visitors, it is advised to honor their culture. Kindly do not litter in this area, as it is inhabited by various population of goats and looking after nature is important here.

First of all and most important that it’s not Fanjah but Wakan. The place is named as in fanjah on booking.com that confused me initially and misleads. Only after calling the facility directly and after their assurance that the facility is in Wakan we proceeded to book there. Wakan is a lovely mountain village that has a long ascending path that begins near the hotel & goes up to a view point. Highlight of our trip was apricot tree in full bloom! Rating I am giving in article 1 above is for WAKAN village and not for Fanjah.

The goat market on a Friday morning is well worth a visit, although it means that you have to get up early. The fort and castle well worth a visit , take a guided tour. The tour around the village is good. The souq is very good. There are decent restaurants.

Traditional and very quite place in the middle of a small heritage village. Friendly and helpful staff. As a family of five, we had booked two rooms. One with bathroom, the other one had shared bathroom on the floor. All very clean and comfortable to use. Great old style Omani flair within the house. Definitely suitable for families and well located to have day trips around the area as there is plenty to see and all nearby. 24/7 access, however, check-in before 11pm recommended. We would have appreciated a breakfast included in our price.

We knew what to expect and enjoyed our time there. The place is very special and a good treat. Book in advance and make sure the room has all luxuries included. There is lots to see in Misfah if you are fit enough to hike the surroundings
